I've recently rediscovered Yugioh cards, and while dueling a friend of mine (who knows next to nothing about the game in the first place), he asserted that he could equip a beast-warrior type monster with Lightning Blade (which can only be equipped to warrior-type monsters). I let it go at the time because I wasn't sure if having warrior in the type's name, albeit hyphenated, granted a pass there. What's the rule for something like this?
(And as a bonus question, Dust Tornado doesn't negate the activation of cards, so if I play Harpie's Feather Duster and he plays Dust Tornado, does my card's effect still take place? I know chains resolve backwards, but I'm pretty sure it would've just been a superfluous play on his part...)

@ Zen: Very helpful. I'm not exactly a beginner, but I'm definitely out of practice. And for the moment, all of my decks ignore the bans; I intend to develop a completely legal one in the near future, but I'm won't be playing in tournaments again for a while regardless.
