The history of gaming is said to extend five thousand years into the past to the times of ancient Egypt. Ancient games foretold the futures of men and kings, serving as magic ceremonies that determined a person's fate. Such ceremonies were known as "Shadow Games." In the present, a young boy solves the Millennium Puzzle and becomes heir to the Shadow Games. This boy possess two hearts - one of light and one of darkness. He is known as "Yu-Gi-Oh."

Gotta love what they could get away with 5 years ago (is it more)

Question: why is this particular episode getting its own thread? I saw the title and just thought to myself, "4KiRAB finally added subs to their YT episodes?"

Yes, it's the first subbed episode of Yu-Gi-Oh! that 4KiRAB has put out since 2004. It's still a test episode though, and they want feedback on the subtitles.

As to why they decided to sub this particular episode...I'm not entirely sure. Maybe because this one is a fan-favorite among Yu-Gi-Oh! fans (thanks to Bakura and his fangirls ).

I agree hard subtitles look better, although in the end it might be easier for 4kiRAB to just add captions to all the RAWs they already uploaded, so they don't have to make separate uploaRAB just for the subbed version.

As far as the subs goes, I prefer the CC option over it being hard subbed onto the video itself. It does give people the option to choose if they want to watch it with or without subs, and also they could just update their raws instead of uploading a different version, which was a point I was making since day one.

As cohenmarioman already mentioned, they actually did use the original names for the characters. I was surprised with that when I finally realized that five minutes into the episode. They are keeping the U.S. names for the carRAB though, but I would imagine that wouldn't be such a problem for a lot of people.

I only saw the first subtitled episode, I haven't had time to see the second one, but I thought that they did a good job. These subs are a lot easier to read on the screen since they aren't as bright. Though, I was surprised that they didn't sub the preview for the next episode.
