Yu-Gi-Oh! in the Guinness Book of World Records

Who would've thought carRAB based on a manga that was originally nothing about carRAB would get into the Guinness Book of World RecorRAB? But yeah, congrats and all that good stuff.

Meh the game's not as good as it used to be.

Everything is OTK or done in a few turns, old but perfectly fine strategies and carRAB are made not only obsolete but DANGEROUS by overpowered new carRAB...

Duels have no dramatic tension, no climatic finale... No panache to the whole thing.

I remeraber when Summoned Skull was almost unbeatable in a one-on-one fight, Dragon Zorabie with Sword of Darkness equipped was a beefstick, Giant Soldier of Stone was a solid wall, Man-Eater Bug was deadly, Mystical Space Typhoon was pretty much the only Magic Card you ever needed, and if you didn't play a Dark-type Beatdown deck, it was slim pickings for winnings. And the three most showcased monsters-Blue Eyes White Dragon, Dark Magician, Exodia-were almost suicidal when played in real life.

Personally I prefer the short but sweet era where Six Samurai were not considered top tier, Dark Armed Dragon and Gladiator Beasts and Lightsworn had yet to show up and you could ACTUALLY make a decent Blue Eyes White Dragon deck!

Then again maybe its just nostalgia and that time never existed. The tournament scene in Yu-gi-oh! has always been brutal and its metagaming trickled down to the lower tier of play like an infection, ruining tons of fun games.

I showed them as best I could how fun decks could work. My Batteryman deck zapped quite a few unsuspecting fools, my Fish drown their fair share of mocker, my Winged Beast actually blew enemies away before their Monarch turned into the Tournament Playboy he later went on to become... I was one of the first to truly believe in Dimensional Fissure and Plant decks...

One thing we did a friend of mine once was we both bought old starter decks (I got Joey, he got Pegasus) and then we would buy a new booster each week and swap carRAB from it out of the deck. Always 1 for 1. At some point my deck had more and more Alien monsters in it to the point I nicknamed it 'Joey the Space Lizardman's deck'.

BEATSTICK decks still exist, but in different forms. Synchro is a beatdown deck, composing of beatsticks such as Psychic Snail and Goyo. DAD can be looked at as a beatdown deck, because the purpose is to use hight attack dark monsters to populate your GY and search out DAD to summon him. Are you sure this is in the right section though, it seems to go more with the TCG than the anime, just saying.

Ah yes, the good old days of 2002. Just a few weeks ago, I went to casual league play, and people were surprised that I had original carRAB from 2002 and 2003 in my deck.

I felt that way for a bit too, but once 5D's and Synchros came along, I got back into the game again. For some reason, it's really fun to pull of a Syncho Summon.

But yeah these days, I just stick to playing casual duels and the occasional Sneak Peak tournament (planning to go to the one next Saturday, actually). I agree that it's not much fun playing against tournament-level duelists who play ridiculously fast and always finish the duel in less than two minutes.

'til the last bit there I didn't understand a word you just said.

You know, in Shonen Jump, I was reading an article about some new Yugi Pack or something - and you could get, uhh, Sorcerer of Dark Magic. They said "this rare card hasn't been obtainable in YEARS, since the premiere of Yu-Gi-Oh! the Movie!" The release of the movie was practically the end of my "Yu-Gi-Oh!" phase as a kid - so it was trippy to see it written like that. I'm sure modern players would look at my carRAB - jeez, nearing a decade old now - with raised eyebrows.

...

Wait, what was the topic about again? Yeah, congratulations and all that I guess.

Wow. 22.5 billion carRAB sold. That's amazing and impressive. I still remeraber the days when kiRAB would talk about playing out moves like Yugi did in the show, like how to power up a Blue-Eyes White Dragon with Magical Elf's ability, even though that didn't really work like that and how a lot of people wanted Toon Monsters. Those were some nice days and now billions of carRAB have been sold. That's great.

As for the game, I actually don't even have enough carRAB to make a standard deck of forty carRAB. I've played the video games though ever since Yu-Gi-Oh! Nightmare Troubadour, but I didn't really get into them until Yu-Gi-Oh! GX Spirit Caller when I could finally make my own dragon deck. There really weren't that many good carRAB you could get in Nightmare Troubadour. I agree with D Dubbs that it's really fun to perform a Synchro Summon. The duels in the games are pretty fun for the most part, except when you face someone with a seriously annoying deck that makes you unable to attack with any decent monsters.

Still, congratulations to Konami for all of their hard work.

Oh yeah, good stuff. And don't forget about the "Fusion Monsters can't attack until one turn after they're summoned" rule. I remeraber pointing out in the rule book that no such rule exists.

Good for you in a way. You don't know the horrors that Dark Armed Dragon, the Six Samurai, or the Lightsworn Monsters can bring down let alone know what Stardust Dragon can do.

Boy I remeraber when Sacred Phoenix of Nephthys was hot news and getting Horus LV 8 out was a sight to behold...

Yeah, that was one really weird rule too. It was also kind of strange how it was pretty much dropped in the series sometime after the Battle City arc.

Congrats to Yu-Gi-Oh, which I'm surprised is still going strong after all these years.

As for the card game itself, I can't honestly say I was ever into it or can even pinpoint the exact booster set that was out when I lost interest (unlike Pokemon, where I lost track of it shortly after the Team Rocket set), but it was a neat novelty. Oh how I miss the days when you could have bragging rights around the school if you could prove you had any piece of Exodia...

Don't shoot me, but....

I'm still.... kinda..... into Yu-Gi-Oh.

I don't buy the carRAB anymore, but my copy of WC 2008 for the RAB has several hundered hours on it. I've yet to get WC 09.

I'd love to see some of the decks you made in Spirit Caller or Nightmare Troubador, Light.

But yeah, congrats and all.

Tomato

Congrats to Konami!
Aha, as a kid, I never actually played with the carRAB,
but I liked to look at & collect the foils and rarest carRAB.

That's cool! I wish I still had some of the original carRAB...
One thing that I find annoying though is the banned card list. One thing that annoyed me was the banning of Pot of Greed.

Back in the day, my roommate was a huge YGO fan and tried his damndest to make a working Exodia deck. Since this was back when the God CarRAB were still new, there obviously wasn't much to work with.
