Your Top Five Anime Characters and Why

well here are my fav five:

1. lucy (elfen lied): because of her cold personality but at the same time kind of nice (at least with kouta )

2. joichiro nishi (gantz): for bieng so cute

3. gaara (naruto): because he changed from evil to good!!

4. sakura (tsubasa reservoir chronicles): she is so nice and i love her outfits haha

5. L (death note): he is so smart!!!

It took me a few minutes to think about it, but my all time top 5 favorites would be...

1. Spike Spiegel - Cowboy Bebop
There really isn't any other anime character like Spike. He has few fears, a very cool demeanor, an excellent sense of humor and sarcasm, but he's also laid back. He's a very deep person, his past haunts him. The way he views his past life, and his current life are very inspiring. I read he bases it off of a samurai/warrior code. His mannerisms and the way he presents himself are very neat too. On top of all that, he kicks major ass, and he's incredibly well voiced in the English version. (Steven Blum has a great voice.)

2. Ren - DearS
Ren isn't perfect, but I think that's what I love about her. She has flaws, considered a defective model in the anime & manga. But that gives her a very strong sense of humanity. She makes mistakes, and she doesn't do everything right. DearS are supposed to be perfect in almost every way from their abilities to their desires to serve their 'masters', the fact that she isn't and has some form of humanity intrigues me. Especially when she starts to accept human emotions and freely does things on her own. As this part of her grows, she becomes aware of things even though they aren't actually said. Furthermore, she has radical hair, and shes really beautiful too. Add super human abilities and some pretty hilarious comedic moments and you have a character you can relate with a bit more!

3. Dorothy Wayneright - Big O
Dorothy to me a very unique character. Although shes an android, as the series progresses she becomes more interested in things like emotions and general things about life. She has a passion for music, playing the piano no less which I myself do too every now and then. As well as having super human speed and strength, she adds a dark, very dry and witty sense of humor to Roger Smith's cool arrogance. The fact that she is a machine, but is curious about and may even be in love makes me love her. She learns a lot about human nature, including memories and feelings towards other people and animals during the series.

4. Vash the Stampede - Trigun
A very conflicted hero, Vash suffers more then most anime characters have in my opinion. Emotionally and physically he's been thrashed throughout the Trigun series, but all in all he doesn't change his unwavering views on life and how he should live it. He's a real dork most of the time, but when he has to fight he can do it really well. He loves donuts too, something I really like about him. He mixes comedy with deep emotion and action more then most protagonists I've seen. His choice of fashion is pretty cool too.

5. Chii - Chobits
Chii is freaking cute. Persocom or not, it's really sad how innocent and cute she is. It would seem like overkill but I can't really complain. Shes so bright and happy, but it's a very calm happy. Her nature leads to many comedic moments in the Chobits anime, acting casual, even nonchalant towards things that are perverted or wrong. She also discovers that she has feelings and emotions that a robot (or something not of the living I suppose) should not have. A big part of her character is finding ''the one for me'' and understanding all these complex feelings throughout the series and how she deals with them.

I would do 5 more if I could. I only have around 10 or possibly 11 characters I feel that strongly towards.

1) Shinji Ikari (Neon Genesis Evangelion) - Most profound character in any anime series. Has the choice to destroy the world and all of humanity but chooses to recreate things on his own terms. He has mental anguish but overcomes everything in the end while still being a truly unique and individual. The emotion Shinji displays or, rather suppresses, is greater than anything I have found in any other series.

2) Spike Spiegel (Cowboy Bebop) - Amazing versatility, funny guy, realistic, and I just like the way this guy rolls.

3) Kiba (Wolf's Rain) - Best part, he is a wolf! Passionate and loyal, he knows what he wants and will do whatever it takes to get there.

4) Light Yagami (Death Note) - Clever and eccentric. He finds a notebook that kills people and has the balls to use it in his own way without any remorse. I love it.

5) Alucard (Hellsing) / Kanpachi (Bleach) - Both are just completely badass. They both follow orders to a point, but do things in their own way. Neither of them can lose in battle and just completely crush anyone in their way.

1.Zoro(One Epiece)-He is supposed to be dead.
2.Croagunk(Pokemon)-He is just so much fun
3.Ed(Cowboy Bebop)-She funny and smart and just plain fun.
4.Kamina(Gurren Lagann)- Awesome simple Awesome.
5.Nico Robin(One piece)-Strong,smart and the only person on the darn crew some sense.

This might be breaking the rules of this thread, but I can't eliminate one of these.

1. Himura Kenshin-(Rurouni Kenshin)
The ideal main character. Legendary swordsman, simply brilliant.
2. Kurama-(Yu Yu Hakusho)
Amazingly well developed character. I love his calm, cool, and collective personality. But also his calm cruelty during the show.
3. Vash The Stampede-(Trigun)
A goof most of the time, Vash is to me as well the most conflicted character of all the animes I've seen.
4. Byakuya-(Bleach)
3 words, GOD DAMN BADASS. lol, but honestly, I love his emotional conflicts, not to mention his strength in battle.
5. Toguro-(Yu Yu Hakusho)
I haven't read this whole thread, but I'll venture a guess I'm probably the only one who put Toguro up here. I was really impressed at how Toguro was developed through the show. He's my favorite Antagonist.(I mean the younger Toguro, not his annoying brother)
6. Aizen-(Bleach)
Brilliant strategist and one of the best Antagonists. The soul society arc really caught me off guard the first time I watched it, and I really was impressed with Aizen's brilliant planning and as always his power.

Honorable mentions: Wolfwood(Trigun), Mustang(FMA), Vegeta(DBZ), Frieza(DBZ), Yusuke Urameshi(Yu Yu hakusho), Hiko Sejuro(Rurouni Kenshin), Makoto Shishio(Rurouni Kenshin), Sojiro(Rurouni Kenshin), Saito(Rurouni Kenshin), Maes Hughes(FMA), Sesshomaru(Inyuasha)

#1: Himura Kenshin (or Hitokiri Battosai) : Best character ever. Sexy, wise, strong, complex, brave, everything that is cool.
The others in no particular order:
Sailor Moon/Tsukino Usagi. Transforms from an under-achieving cry-baby into this powerful magical girl who loves everyone.
Edward Elric. Brave, cute and loyal.
Suzuhara Misaki (Angelic Layer): so kawaii and innocent.
Kaioh Michiru or Sailor Neptune: Another awesome magical girl. The most beautiful anime girl there is. Not to mention an artistic genius.

Lucy(Elfen Lied) - Although she has suffered all her child hood years and has grown such a hatred for the human race; Lucy; the diclonius; has started to show remorse toward her horrid actions. She has low tolerance for almost everything, and even though she can be really mean, I find it soooo cute. I love it when girls are mean, it just makes me laugh.

Natsume(Gakuen Alice) - Blunt, mean and always upset, somewhat like me, but Natsume soon shows more sympathy and love as he meets MikanChan. Days go by and he falls in love with her as I fell in love with my friend Aaron. To me; Natsume is really inspirational because he has so much patience, but then again he has none for "ignorant ****s".

Haruhi(Ouran Host Club) - Boyish actions, a cute personality but awkwardly shown is what stole my heart. Haruhi is that young, timid, girl whose always tranquil throughout every day to day girl obsessed boy. Haruhi is adorable, she can be really shy, but then again she can be really outgoing, but everyone likes her, for her. And that's what makes me feel good about the whole anime.

Kurumu Kurono(Rosario + Vampire) - The cutest, funniest, succubus ever. Kurumu loves to have things her way and the only way she can get things done her way is to seduce her victom. And being seductive ALWAYS wins me over.

Kakashi(Naruto) - He's so patient and I never see him upset or raging. He works with Naruto, Sakura, and Sasuke and they all have their own seperate annoying persona's but Kakashi still deals with it, and that really makes me think about me having no patience for like, anyone.

Well, Inuyasha was the anime that got me back into anime and it brings back memories. He's funny, strong, and has cute ears! Plus he goes through so much character development.

3. Sesshomaru
I am not a fangirl, but this character is just extremely drawn well. His design is great(anime > manga)
Also he has changed a lot and I overall like his personality and the long white hair, which is rare.

4. Kamina
I don't need to explain this.

5. Nana O.
Great female character. She's a little dramatic but so is everyone in that series. I still love her and her style. Plus her love for Hachi.

1. lucy/nyuu from elfen lied
sort of a cross between chii from chobits and gaara from naruto
doesn't kill kaota because he was the only one who was nice to her, and doesnt kill kurama because she wanted him to suffer
2. princess nausicaa
kind and gentle, bold and daring but can open a can of whoop a** when necessary (tho she hates doing so)
3. gaara, naruto
goes from being a villain to a good guy
4. conan edogawa/shinichi kudo
briliant
5. moriarti from sherlock hound - a hillariously cute villain, his gang of 3 are like team rocket done right

and boy problems considering he's haf girl

I don't have a particular order. I just have faves. So Solly, Chahlie.

Kaneda. Akira. How do you get cooler than saving the flipping world from a psycho-nuclear disaster? You don't. Suck it.

Sara. Shamanic Princess. She is the source of all magic for an entire race of beings. I shouldn't have to explain this.

Inmu and Yanku. Kakurenbo: Hide and Seek. Never say a word, yet they have the best lines in the whole film. Wilson can go take a flying leap.

Major Kusanagi. GitS. I love her stubborn refusal to give up her spiritual malaise. It makes my heart happy.

Abel Nightroad. Trinity Blood. His laugh cracks me up. Also the fact that he EATS VAMPIRES.

So there you go. Gamma's list and no Bebop. Suckers.

1. Kurama/Shuichi Minamino (Yu Yu Hakusho) -- He can control ****ing plants. He was also incredibly intelligent without being a massive douchebag.
2. Master Roshi (DragonBall) -- He was a hilarious perverted old man! He also had a great way of training and living life.
3. Kenshin (Rurouni Kenshin) -- Quiet and reserved, adorable, and yet a master in battle.
4. Jin the Wind Master (Yu Yu Hakusho) -- He had the CUTEST accent in the english dub. Basically the reason.
5. Gaara (Naruto) -- I guess I have a thing for the quiet, red-haired guys. And he was misunderstood, making him appealing to women. Hahaha.

My top 5 are:

1. Haruhi (Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi) -- In the anime world, Haruhi is god! Her directness and brashness allows her the ability to get things done - just the way she wants it. Not even Kyon can stop her.
2. Belldandy (Ah My Goddess) -- The model for the perfect woman - if one such exists. Graceful, gorgeous, compassionate, powerful, and divine. This is who Belldandy is.
3. Sailor Venus (Sailor Moon) -- The hottest blonde character evar! I'm your Venus, I'm your fire! Yet, her bit of history is a bit sad (episode 42); but that doesn't get her down.
4. Chiyo-Dad (Azumanga Daioh) -- A very intimidating cat. Don't mess with him. Also, Eat Your Tomatoes! Seriously. Just eat it.
5. Eclair (Kiddy Grade) -- Beauty, Brains, AND Brawn. Despite her troubles, she lives rather carefree. When in trouble, she finds her way out of situations. Now, that's using her talents. On top of that, she has an extended lifetime.
