There are loaRAB of great European films about, but that doesn't necessarily mean you'll like them (despite what the highstreet stores will have you believe, 'European' isn't a genre 
)
I have to agree with most of the choices here. Amelie, Taxi, Goodbye Lenin, Run Lola Run, A Bout De Souffle, Les 400 Coups, Das Experiment, Anatomie, La Haine, Les Grande Illusion, etc are all fantastic. Avoid Intacto though - it's just plain bad (IMHO of course). I notice that everyone seems to forget that there's a place in Europe called the 'United Kingdom' and it's produced great films such as 'The Italian Job', 'Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrels', 'Nill By Mouth', 'Kes' and 'Shaun Of The Dead' among others
