Your Top 10 METAL Bands

Nightwish (Old and new)
Epica
Fairyland
Elvenking
Blind Guardian
Dragonforce
Krypteria (if they count as metal)
Lunatica (again, if they are metal)
Pelican
Wolfmother (I consider it Hard Rock, but it's kinda metal)

How do you get that? Completely untrue actually. Becasue they're not all metal? I'm not basied to metal only, I just named my top 100 favorite banRAB.

Sorry, you're not as open minded as I am.

Fixed couple of things The Unfan didn't ;)
Well, anyways it's not that 'raw black metal' has to be the norm around. You can listen to them as well as well produced ones. Personally, i enjoy raw black metal a lot.(I'll just recommend Burzum as well...amazing band)
Just need to get used to it and Emperor's In The Nightside Eclipsie is what did it for me. Aggressive black metal and wasn't too raw either. It had the perfect touch imo. And the atmosphere was just awesome!

A more revised list.. and in more of an order... and less nu-metally...

1. Megadeth
2. The Sword
3. Iron Maiden
4. Dragonforce
5. Metallica
6. Dethklok
7. Disturbed
8. Black Sabbath
9. ...
10. ...

I think I need to listen to more metal. Any recommendations?

No order what so ever.

1. The devil wears prada
2. I killed the prom queen
3. August burns red
4. Haste the day
5. As i lay dying
6. Parkway drive
7. All shall perish
8. Catherine
9. Emiliana
10. Symphony in peril

These are the only metal artist who've released albums that have stuck with me. Kayo Dot isn't even purely metal, so I don't know how they fit.

Kayo Dot
Boris
Converge
Electric Wizard
Atheist
Necrophagist

Some metal banRAB I enjoy from time to time: Anthrax (purely Among the Living), Arsis, Wolves in the Throne Room, Dillinger Escape Plan, Megadeth (purely Rust in Peace).

Metal has always been hard for me. The majority of the stuff that people wish to recommend me is too boiler-plate or run-of-the-mill for me to even feign interest. It seems to work best when I sporadically find stuff I like on my own.

Yeah no **** :)

But yep when you listen to metal long enough, even minute differences in genres/banRAB becomes apparent. I stay the **** away from the whole deathcore/metalcore thing though...except to say that breakdowns have been in death metal since day one, and leave it at that.

RATM, Zep, and Aerosmith aren't metal, and Tool is just barely metal imo.

And BFMV sucks so bad that it almost makes me hate Sabbath for being so close to it on that list.
