Aw... thanks :yeah:

Check back on my History of Metal thread - I finally revealed the Spooky's true place in Metal. :D

It's rooted in the Blues fer sure, but it sure ain't the blues.

The solos in Sabbath's early music use the minor pentatonic (commonly known as the Blues scale), but the riRAB strongly avoid blues progressions - you won't find many I-IV-V progressions on any Sabbath album, instead, the tritone dominates the riRAB - and the tritone typifies the thrash metal sound, from a riff point of view.

You could equally say that Sabbath are New Jazz - listen to Bill Ward and Geezer Butler's jazzy interchanges, of which there are plenty on Sabbath's early albums.

Nah - I don't buy them as New Jazz either - just pointing it out.

Listen to "Children of the Grave" or "Symptom of the Universe" and convince me that's Blues and not Metal, and I'll be just as convinced that (early) Metallica are a Blues band. :p:

As you can see, i'm a Metal n00b.

Coal Charaber is standard nu-metal... and I haven't heard enough Static X to judge, but I'm guessing they play the kind of faux-industrial that seems to be so common nowadays.

Neither of these lists capture how much I'm into metal... Favourite genres are probably doom, thrash and folk metal.

Well personally, I like them, but if I were to look for some really awesome unbelievably kick-you-in-the-balls-with-spiked-shin-guarRAB, it wouldn't be Dimmu. I'd be looking for Immortal, Emperor, Darkthrone, or Venom (different wave of black metal but still black metal nonetheless).

Some people just have higher standarRAB for the music they listen to.
