Your opinion of the best singer of all time

My point was that, despite my personal beliefs, Lennon can be better than Dylan, Orbison, and those other guys, because he did bring something new to the game. Beyond that it's just preference.

And Buble doesn't sing like Sinatra. He sings like Sinatra-Lite. What a talentless hack he is.

Paul Robeson, an inspiration who stood up to his government for equality and justice and was the greatest voice of the 20th century, a deep bass that could be tender and confidential one minute and rattle foundations the next. He sang songs of struggle and revolution around the world in 20 languages... this guy is just purity to me; he never gave in, but they got to him in the end of course!

YES!

also, so cliche, she heavily overdo's her voice. If she never her voice would be even more awesome.

In the style of music I like, there really isn't any permanent singers, but Sarah McLachlan by far is one of the most memorable even though it was a one off.

aside from that I've never really been exposed to a permanent vocalist, sorry for my blurred choices.

^ I like that list right there.... especially Bowie, Patton, and ***en. I don't think I've talked to anyone else here who likes Steely Dan:(. What's your favorite album by them?

yes, he's amazingly diverse. either him or Bowie. me Bowie fanboy

AND

lest we forget, Don Van Vliet aka Captain Beefheart had the definitive blues voice and the range to accomodate his music. He could sing lines like 'cheese in the corner with a mile long beard' and make them profound. infact he probably takes the title for me. could have been one of 'the greats' if he'd sung otis redding songs

Tom Waits is amazing, but when it comes to style I'd have to say my favorite is either Maynard of Tool or Vedder of Pearl Jam. I don't exactly know why I like either of those too as singers. They aren't very special but there's something very soothing when I hear them sing.

I'm not even gonna try to give a complete list. Just a few off the top of my head:
Freddie Mercury
Chris Cornell
Mike Patton
Frank Sinatra
Billie Holiday
George Michael (crappy music, great singer. Only one that could sing one of Queen's songs properly on Freddie's tribute concert)
