Your Most and Least Favorite Sound-Effects

Unfortunately not as much as I used to. However, I still love everything involving the non-Elmyra years of Pinky and the Brain, most of the Slappy cartoons and the majority of the Warner shorts animated by TMS and Startoons. The rest, honestly, I find myself with very little patience for. Richard Stone was not the second coming of Stalling as many fans often used to claim and like I said above, the show needed a bigger variety of sound effects.

To be completely honest, even with all it's faults I'd rather watch Tiny Toons.
 
What about the Goofy Holler? That's a classic Disney sound effect, and they've even used it in some movies that don't even have Goofy in it like The Hunchback of Notre Dame. I never get tired of hearing it.
 
almost any MGM sound effect especially a swift hit by a pipe and twang from strings being plucked and Milk chan soundeffects my least favorite is brake slamming i don't know why
 
The Goofy Holler is a classic, but I seem to recall that Disney had Bill Farmer record a new version of it in the early '90s for "Goof Troop" (it shows up a couple of times in A Goofy Movie as well). Farmer's holler is a lot weaker and doesn't have that same wacky resonance as the 1941 Hans Schrolle version. Thankfully, Disney seems to have gone back to the original recording in recent years - it's heard in "How to Hook Up Your Home Theater" and elsewhere.

Amazingly, despite the holler's indelible connection to the Goofy character, I've also heard it on "Rocko's Modern Life" a couple of times. But then again, "Rocko" seemed to have access to the complete cartoon sound effects libraries of Disney, Warner Bros., and Hanna-Barbera, and made extremely good use of that wide selection, so it doesn't surprise me.
 
That's right; I think Rocko had the most wide selection of classic 'toon sound effects, even more than "Spongebob Squarepants" or "Hey Arnold" or "CatDog!"
 
My favorite sound effect would have to be the Flintstones running sound effect, that sort of sounded like a xylophone.

My least favorite would have to be that "Clip chlop" sound efffect that they used in The Real Ghostbusters and other cartoons whenever the characters ran or walked. I guess they put that in to be more realistic, but there's nothing realistic about it (Do ever hear "clip chops" whenever someone is walking or running), and plus it jhust sounds annoying.
 
Favorites:

-The crunching sound used in Hanna-Barbera cartoons whenever a character's limbs are being squeezed or twisted. It's sick yet funny.
-The WHAM! effect used in Tiny Toons and Animaniacs
-Pots and pans in old Looney Toons shorts
-Goofy's legendary holler
-Airhorn
-The mangled tuba noise used in the Flintstones whenever Fred realizes that he did something stupid
-Deep explosion noise whenever a character hits a wall or their head in old Hanna-Barbera cartoons
-The gleam effect in anime whenever something sparkles or shines briefly. It was a staplemark in 80's and 90's anime and was even used by Greg McCracken and Genndy Tartakovsky. What happened to that sound effect???
-The elephant noise that was used in the Disney Afternoon cartoons circa '93. It happened every time a certain character got shocked by a dumb revelation.

Non-Favorites:

-The cat hiss. Everytime I hear this in a cartoon or from a non-existant cat in a live action movie, my blood runs cold. I really hate the sound of this effect because it seems like the cat is being tortured for the purpose of this effect.
-The crowd gasp. Those who have heard this know about the pre-dominant feminine gasp that takes up the majority of the effect. Putting it in any medium doesn't work because you know it sounds fake. Hell, even the Discovery show Destroyed in Seconds used that effect and that just annoyed me. Since when does reality TV call for added foley?
 
Favorite: that weird loopy, twirly noise (examples: Chowder's arms unlooping around the mixer in "Chowder's Magazine" and the appearance of the title in the "Robot Chicken" sketch "Cork")

Least Favorite: that grating horse neigh from the "Pink Panther" cartoons; I saw two straight cartoons with that sound and it made me wish there was a glue factory nearby
 
Man, it's really hard to describe most of the sound effects I like since they're applied with a variety of different actions.

One of my favorites is from old Hanna-Barbera action cartoons that was used a lot in the Powerpuff Girls; that sound when they strike a bad guy and it makes that sci-fi "ba-wow!" sound. It was used a lot more in the early episodes, but more sparingly as the series went on. It's really hard to describe. You probably have no idea what I'm talking about. :p
 
Oh man, Tom and Jerry is a gold mine for this sort of thing. If it even counts as a sound effect, I'd definately go with Tom's trademark "AAAAAAAAH!" scream. It NEVER fails to crack me up.
But otherwise, I love the sound made when a character is hit by something, usually a plank of wood or a window shutter. Sounds more like a gun going off, but it works so well that it's hard not to smile.
There's also the tremendous explosion sound they used when Butch smacks Tom in the backside with a guitar. Y'know, just to let you know that it hurt.

Ed, Edd n' Eddy has several that I like, though it might be because they're so bizarre. Like, if a character peers over a fence for example, you'd get a faint sheep 'meeeeh!' or something.
My favourite one is pretty hard to desribe though. It's usually used for when Ed is stumbling around or has his head trapped inside something, and sounds like a strange mumbling noise. If you've ever seen the episode where he's working in Rolf's shed at peeling a potato, you'll know the one I mean.
There's also that one they use for when a character is about to let loose a heavy blow, and sounds vaguely like a stereotypical martial artist. "Zudolo-zudlo-za-za-zuuudLA!"... something like that, anyway.

And finally, while I don't know where it originates from, I love that 'yodeling' sound used when a character reaches a lofty place, or even falls from it.
 
The crashing sound heard on Jay Ward and DePatie-Freleng cartoons. Also, the thunder sound effect heard on many Paramount-Famous cartoons.
 
These are both so great. The first one I think is hilarious, providing it's the one I'm thinking of. Sort of like an incredibly brain-dead shuddering noise?

Recent Favorites:
1. The plunger in water sound used for Toothless (How To Train Your Dragon) regurgitating food. It's been used before in another movie, but I don't remember what it was.
2. The warbling tone used for Toothlessly flyby.
Neither of those are in any of the trailers (both were finished after the trailer teams were finished) or available to hear yet.

My #1 is probably one of the screams (I'm torn between Howie and Goofy), but the "exaggerated blinking" sound effect from Ren & Stimpy is also a favorite (Something like "poing-poing-poing".)

Also, from the same show, whenever a character is hurt, I like the elaborate bone-snapping sound that gets made. I think it shows up at least twice, once in Fire Dogs after Mr. Horse is thrown from the bulding and again in Stimpy's Invention.
