Ive recently watched quite a few of his films for the first time
Manhattan
Hannah and her sisters
and
Annie Hall

ive seen match point to but thats not as good- what are your favourite Woody Allen films and are there any other good ones?

Sleeper
Everything you always wanted to know about sex....
Annie Hall
Hannah and her Sisters
Mighty Aphrodite.

I find Woody has a very real life and funny way of directing

Annie Hall, its a romantic movie for unromantic people. Actually, scratch that, I'm pretty romantic :) . However it's sweet but not saccherine and the characters are so engaging, you really care what happens to them at the end. It even managed to explain how Woody Allan could pull a fox like Diane Keaton (almost.)

Great explantation :) It is the most unromantic / romantic movie ever :D Diane Keaton is brilliant in that film and women should see her as a heroine. That film takes romance down to a base level. Boy and girl and the feelings between them. The way they both constantly question each other's feelings is so every day :D

Sleeper - his funniest and most original film
Love And Death - his funniest and most original homage to European cinema

I really liked Everyone Says I Love You and Sweet And Lowdown but have only seen them once so not sure how they'd stand up. Not sure about Mighty Aphrodite, it's a clever film but he seemed a bit too interested in Mira Sorvino's breasts. Or was that just me?

Don't forget "Bananas" - where alse can you see WE pose as a surgeon performing a nose transplant in the most clueless manner possible, and have it go so badly wrong the donor nose gets squashed flat by a steam-roller!?

take the money and run(trying to escape from prison with a gun carved from soap and its hissing down)
annie hall(the infamous cocaine party scene)
manhatten(just beautiful as well as funny)
radio days(his parents arguing over whats the best ocean pmsl)
broadway danny rose(the silly acts and the shootout with the mobsters with the helium truck)

just some of my favs

Crimes and Misdemeanours
Love and Death
Hannah and her Sisters
Sweet and Lowdown

All brilliant! And strangely enough they all have the word "and" in their title (surely a coincidence!)

not one of you have said ZELIG, true genius!!!

i taped it off the tele years ago, still got the tape, and when i was going through them, it popped out and put it on .....

had to FORCE myself to stop watching it, as i haden't finished going through them!!!

just an awesome film IMO

It's a close call between HUSBANRAB AND WIVES, CRIMES AND MISDEMEANORS and MANHATTAN MURDER MYSTERDY - but pipping them to the post for me is ANOTHER WOMAN. It's a very low-key dramatic film of his that really divides people, but all Woody Allen fans should give it a chance. The performances are superb, especially those of Gena RowlanRAB and Gene Hackman, and it has a mood all its own.

I think Crimes and Misdimeanors(sp?) is one of his best films by far, I rarely hear people mention it as their favourite, but is absolutely one of mine. I really liked Match Point and I hope he does some more straight dramatic stuff in the future. Also even though most would say he has lost his greatness, I think some of his recent stuff has been really good, try Melinda and Melinda, which I think is his funniest film in decades.
