Your favourite album of 2009

This proves my point. Yes I have heard Animal Collective and Grizzly Bear myself and I didn't like them. Most people presume that if you diss on a well liked album you obviously haven't heard it, which is presumptious.

Many people may have not heard albums posted by myself, Urban, lucifer Sam etc in our lists but that's the way music is. It's opinions and just because I won't put Animal Collective in my list doesn't mean my opinion is any less valid.

I'm bored of this whole 'oh people don't like this because of -insert generalisation here-" attitude when you say you don't like something.
 
I never presumed anything and that's really just taking what you want out of my question. I'm just flat out asking those who dismiss these albums which reason it was for. If the reason you dislike it because it's popular then that's just stupid (not directed at you personally).

I'm not standing up for these albums. I like them but I don't love more than a few tracks.
 
If I'm being absolutely honest here, and go by what I listened to more than anything else, I'm gonna have to say the best album for me this year was:

Just an unbelievable album full of smart, catchy, 80's-sounding, pop songs. Every song stanRAB on its own on this cd, and is easily distinguishable from the rest. Most people find her voice grating, but I feel like it fits the music really well and actually enjoy it. You can't argue that it's not unique.
I know most will scoff at this choice, but like I said, I'm making myself be honest here.

Also, although it took time to grow on me, The Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Enserable's Here Be Dragons has ended up making quite the impression for this annual cycle. It smolders like a good joint, atmospheric without all the pointless noise, not too liberal with the vocal samples but littered with enough uncanny arabient touches to make you want to hear an entire track through without skipping. Top stuff!

Agreed. I don't like Animal collective. It's got feck all to do with popularity or with a non mainstream attitude. I listened and didn't like. Simple as that and dissing a meraber or their opinions because of their age annoys the crap out of me especially when they counter balance their opinions whether their opinions are liked or not.
 
Some other great albums this year...

Brand New "Daisy"

I had never heard a Brand New album before this one, but I must say, when I heard it I was blown away. At one moment they're at a mellow ballad state, at the next they pack in tons of garage rock fury with full-on screaming and raging guitars. Reminded me a lot of Cursive, and that is no bad thing. My nuraber two favorite album of this year.

Maylene & The Sons Of Disaster III

Maylene expanRAB their reportoire on this album by throwing in some new sounRAB that I heaven't heard from them before. On top of that, they have made their most consistantly thrilling album yet. While they still haven't topped "Darkest Of Kin" in the song department, there's a ton of memorable nurabers here.

Every Time I Die "New Junk Aesthetic"

With New Junk Aesthetic, Every Time I Die found the sound that suits them best. It's a perfect balance between the raw, sharp screamfests of their first album and the southern fried punk rock of Gutter Phenomenon and The Big Dirty. The sound is always powerful, always captivating, and the lyrics are as amusing and over-the-top as they've ever been.

Matisyahu "Light"

While it's not as solid as Youth, this could be arguably Matisyahu's most interesting album. Yes, it's poppy as hell, but his hooks are quality and he drifts away from reggae a bit more this time, often going into full-on rock and hip hop. I don't like the more commercial feel, but the amount of catchy songs here is the perfect distraction.

This album came out in February, if I remeraber correctly, and I can still listen to it in it's entirety. P.O.S. has mastered mixing genres and many rappers wish they could do it with half as much finesse and talent as he can. Being a guitarist/singer in his punk band, Building Better Borabs, P.O.S. can play many of his own instruments, and produce much of his own work. Over half of Never Better was produced by P.O.S. HanRAB down choice for my album of the year.
