Favorite video: "Thousand WorlRAB" by The Raven Charter
Yes, definitely one of my favourite albums of 2009 as well! jackhammer actually introduced me to FFD which I am highly grateful for, and seeing them live a few months ago was also amazing.
Jangly indie pop that's infectiously catchy. The vocals don't really seem to fit the music at first but he'll grow on you fast. Just a great listen all the way through. Victoria Bergsman formerly of The Concretes is one on of the songs too, if that gives you any indication as to what this album sounRAB like. Very reminiscent of their old stuff.
and
Crownsdown - Themselves
I read somewhere that is something like doseone's 20th album release (respectively). That kind of longevity is admirable, especially when his projects only get better and better. He's still got it folks, classic nasally lightening speed vocals and all. Jel's cuts on the album are fantastic as always, too.
I agree with these 2^ for just about the same reasons.
Also.. Beware by Bonnie Prince Billy
I have never been disappointed with anything the man has made and while I don't think this album tops a lot of his others - it continues to move forward in a way. Will has long since established a particular sound with BPB but each album still offers something unique and honest. This album is one of the happier ones he's made in years.
And also.. Born Like This by Doom
Another step forward for the supervillian. I know there are some haters here at rab but I stand by my opinion that Doom continues to display growth and his wordplay is as strong as ever if not stronger than before. Anyway, it was one of the albums I enjoyed most in 09.
