Your favourite album of 2009

I keep seeing that accusation being thrown around here yet nobody has given examples of people doing it.

I just think it's a lazy way of lumping people together when you don't have a proper argument personally.
 
There were a lot of good albums in 2009 but I don't think I heard any great ones. No single album really connected with me like Fleet Foxes did in 2008 or M.I.A did in 2007.

That great 2009 album may still be out there and I haven't heard it yet. The oft mentioned Grizzly Bear was was an excellent album. I also thought the debut albums by XX and Cold Cave were impressive.
 
Well to be fair to tracer, it sounRAB like Alfred never listened to those albums so you could say that he never gave them a fair chance. On the other hand, it is his decision whether he considers the band worthy of a listen or not. However, I don't think he should dismiss them unless he's listened to the albums.

And of course my own band's album. Which was recorded this year. It just has yet to be released.

Q-Tip - Kamaal / The Abstract

I have a hard-on for acid jazz and jazz-rap when it's done with some stripes n' panache, and Q-Tip (of ATCQ fame) certainly pulled out all the stops on this baby which came out earlier this year. Although the fact that it didn't receive release back in 2003 because the label had a stick up its arse is a durned shame, I'm glad it finally reached shelves this year.
 
I have to agree with you on all three of these albums. Polvo is probably as new to me as they are to you and I have to say I'm equally as impressed. I did discover Panopticon and Wavering Radiant at the same time and Panopticon ended up in max rotation in my itunes for a long time, thus shadowing the album, but by it's own merit it's still a fantastic album.
 
Hell yes. I don't know if I posted this but this would definitely be my favourite album of 2009. It's mind-blowing, I love Karnivool and can't believe how far they have come from being such a small-time local act.

Although I can't say I'm much of a fan of Set Fire to the Hive (song), my highlights of the album would be Deadman, Goliath, and Change. I can't believe you didn't bring up the latter two! Amazing.
 
I don't care who likes or dislikes whatever but have those who have dismissed the hyped albums even given them a listen or are you just being anti-mainstream for the sake of it?
 
Wow, nice literacy skills. Point out where I said I wouldn't listen to an album PURELY because it got praise. In fact, I'm even more inclined to listen to an album if it gets praise. But when the praise comes from the indie community, all I can do is shrug. I honestly can't hear the difference in quality from an album Pitchfork rates a 4 and an album they rate a 9.

Why indie albums have this sort of unadmitted importance among critics and music fans over albums from say, black metal or hardcore punk is beyond me.

Oh, and my fifteenth birthday is in January.
 
haha I could go on saying the whole album is a highlight, I should've put the other two. I don't know why I like Set Fire To The Hive but I do... :shycouch:
