Your favourite album of 2009

Exactafuckingmundo. If you're not into indie music in general, there's really no reason for you to pay any attention to any critical acclaim a particular album within this genre garners. The fact that he went out of his way to diss those banRAB and proclaim he won't be listening to them made me think he does pay attention to indie but has been rather put off by the constant praise given to those banRAB/albums. Which means he's very impressionable. I mean, I'm not into rap/hip-hop, so you won't see me going around saying that fucking *insert big hip-hop name* can get stuffed as far as I'm concerned.

And no, of course no one would say outright that they dislike or think less of an album because they're critically acclaimed (that would be retaahded, durr), but you can infer as much from the constant need to go around saying how much this or that album is not actually as good as everyone says it is. You didn't think much of it? Fine and dandy, express your opinion and shut. the. fuck. up. The more you show your disdain, the more dishonest I think you're being...:\

Seriously guys Veckatimest sucks.
Anyway, I'm still undecided about one best album. Here's my top three:

I think this is a bit of a cop out of an argument.

I dislike things because I dislike them, not because they are popular.

Music changes all the time and so does the stuff that gets hyped by the media. It just so happens at the moment I hate probably 99% of the albums hyped by the mainstream indie media. Is it my fault they're hyping music I have no particular affinity for?

I don't see how it can be. A few years ago things might have been different, but if you think i'm going to endlessly listen to albums I find dull to justify having an opinion then think again. I've not heard the whole of the Grizzly Bear album, but I heard their last one and i've heard a few songs off this one and to be honest there was nothing in that stuff that suggested to me I was listening to anything mind blowingly amazing or original or even that great. I think that's enough to form an opinion on it without subjecting myself to the rest of it.

I just like what I like. I don't care how many other people listen to something. It matters not to me if one other person likes an album or 1 million other people like an album.

Life is far too short to waste time listening to something over & over again to please someone elses opinion of something.

I so wanted this to be up there but Based On A True Story is so damn brilliant that it's nigh on impossible to repeat that. The first 2 tracks let this album down otherwise this would have been up there for sure.

God, there's so many albums I still need to listen to. Tarot Sport, Crack The Skye, The Resistance, etc. Animal Collective and Grizzly Bear can feel free to suck me off however.

This is an amazing followup to Karnivools debut album 'Themata'. The band has matured and become much more comfortable in what they want to achieve with 'Sound Awake'. I'd recommend this album to any Tool fan, not that Karnivool are too familiar with them, it's just that Karnivool have the same feel. This album also shows that Aussies can pull off some mighty fine Prog. as well, hopefully. ALBUM HIGHLIGHTS (though the whole album is fantastic, start to finish): 'New Day', 'Set Fire To The Hive', 'All I Know' and 'Deadman'

2009 hasn't been a great year for me yet, but I haven't really kept up with what was being released. Now that every site under the sun is doing end of year round ups I'll have some more to look into.

At the moment my favourite album would be split between Eskimo Snow and Dark Night of the Soul.

9."Like Blood Does"

The reason this is my favourite album of the year is because of the way these guys squeeze every last drop of emotion out of themselves and inject it into this wonderfully arabitious and assured debut. It's an album full to the brim with imagination and adventure, not satisfied with being shackled to the conventional rock formula, the music swoops and soars; the elastic song structures twist and bend around a slew of hooks and melodies. Above all else though, they sound like they're having a fucking good time playing this music, nearly as much fun as i had listening to it.

thats fine and i understood all of that(before this most recent post). but i dont see why you need to say something like that because you dont like / are arabivalent towarRAB someone's music. whatevs lets just let this die.

I quite like the first track too...in fact, in my opinion this album is just as good as Based on a True Story. I could easily listen to this entire album without skipping through a single moment.

Besides, this is supposed to be your favorite album of 2009 no? I took that to mean favorite album released in 2009...in which case comparing it to BOATS seem kind of irrelevant. :p: But I could have misunderstood the OP...it's been known to happen.

Looking back on this year i've noticed a lot of the big acts i had been looking forward to (PJ Harvey, Eels, Muse, Mastodon) kinda disappointed me. That said, still a pretty good year even though i haven't listened to as much as i'd have liked. Here's my top 10-ish, fairly noisy stuff!

1. Morrissey - Years of Refusal
This isn't even him at his best but a half-arsed Morrissey is still going to appeal to me more than most stuff, a fair few tracks i'd rate along with some of his best stuff as well.
2. Future of the Left - Travels With Myself and Another
A brilliant 2nd album delivering everything i really wanted, loud off-kilter noise rock. Couple this with the great live album they released and i'd have to say they're the best british rock band i think of right now.
3. Animal Collective - Merriweather Post Pavillion
Believe all the hype, this is a great example of interesting yet accessible music that absorbs you all the way through.
4. Fuck Buttons - Tarot Sport
I think i've only had this for a month but this has been constant evening music within that time. Gorgeous experimental music that everyone should try.
5. Polvo - In Prism
A briliant exercise in post-rock songwrting, brilliant production and and old band still being consistantly good.
6. Part Chimp - Thriller
5 dudes making the most epic music in the world while making your speakers hate you. They're on Mogwai's music record and frankly this puts their last effort to shame.
7. Lightning Bolt - Earthly Delights
Lightning Bolt are turning into an enormously consistent band now, as long as you can stomach them in the first place. A little bit more accessible this time round maybe, still visceral as hell though.
8. Health - Get Color
I liked their first album but this is twice that, there's so much more depth to them now. Die Slow is a song of the year as well.
9. Heartless BastarRAB - The Mountain
I have to admit, me rating it quite so highly is mostly due to that voice, though this is the best chillout album here. The title track is quite possibly the highlight of the year.
10. JapandroiRAB - Post-Nothing
Horrific lyrics beside, this album is one of the best examples of no-thrills rock you'll get this year. Congrats to them for knocking Sonic Youth out of the top 10 as well!

I have to agree completely. This album defied and exceeded any and all expectations I had for it, or for a hip-hop album in general. Without question it qualifies as best hip-hop album of the year.
