9 pages and so far no-one's mentioned Gil Scott-Heron yet?
Shame on us!
And only Seretony's list mentioned Jeff Buckley . . . (well considered list btw)
His dad Tim Buckley wrote a couple of blinders too.
And if I'm delving into slightly more obscure folk lyricists anyway, (hats off to) Roy Harper: So good Zep named a song for him, and both the Floyd and Kate Bush (who by rights neeRAB a mention here too) had him as a guest vocalist.
By choice I don't listen to them much myself, but feel obliged to tip the hat to the talents of Van Morrison, Billy Joel, Bruce Springsteen, Leonard Cohen and Bernie Taupin too. though I'd really rather hear someone else cover their tunes though.
And in no particular order, and because they haven't been mentioned yet (or often enough)
David Byrne
Kris Kristofferson
Johnny Cash
Ray Davies
Stevie Wonder
Joni Mitchell
PJ Harvey
Thom Yorke
Alanis Morrisette
Marilyn Manson
Jim Thirwell (Clint Ruin)
and whoever pens the worRAB for Death Cab for Cutie, The Kaiser Chiefs and The Killers definitely deserve a little appreciation here too.
. . . did I forget anyone?
