Your Favorite Director (no lists - tell us WHY)

 Every time we do one of these threads I fail to answer because there are just too many!

Name a genre and I'll give you director...or two, or three...

Tim Burton-he is amazing.....when he gets with johnny depp, the movies turn out amazing!! of course i can't forget my fave tim burton movie ever...the nightmare before christmas (he produced it)

Just wanted to throw a name out there that hadn't been mentioned yet - Paul Thomas Anderson. He's one of the many, anyway.

^ ROCKSTAR great find thanks! I'll read it after this.

My favorite director is also Wong Kar Wai because he made the movie of my life - Chungking Express. His film making style is very poetic. There are times that you'll think it is so weird and confusing, but it works.

I guess I should add Terrence Malick to my list. For one reason: The New World.

Brilliant and poetic.... Can't get much better than that.

Wow, this is hard. Cuz a lot of directors, I'd like them in one movie but then his or her next movie I'd be like "Meh. Not all that great." So it's kinda hard to have a fav one. :P

I need to add Oliver Stone to my list. Oh and Bonnie Hunt for making Return to Me. Who makes a movie like that anymore??? Well, she did and I will be eternally grateful.

I have so many but I think Alfred Hitchcock and Francis Ford Coppola are my favourites. Both are so talented and their films can really inspire viewers. I'm such a fan of both.

Well said. I love WKW's style. His films require so much active participation from the viewer. Also love Kurosawa. His films are emotional and humanistic without being overly sentimental.

Oh, gosh - yes, his films defined an era and a genre - the disaster films of the 1970s! How they scarred me! But they really are classics.

Steven Spielberg, Clint Eastwood, Gus Van Sant, Zach Braff.....my current fav. is Eastwood though, what he did with Mystic River, genius!

Ridley Scott and Sofia Coppola: those are the only two names that came to mind immediately.

My darling is Wong Kar-Wai.
I'm obsessed with his movies for the last 8 years. I just adore each and every one of his movies. They're truly beautiful, poetic and original. I'm a true fan.

I have lots but Ridley Scott & Joel Joel Schumacher are my darlings.

Especially Joel Schumacher because it seems I love all his movies before knowing he was the one directing! Now I know all his movies and though I haven't seen them all, I plan to... That of course included "POTO" which I have yet to see.
