your favorite and least appreciated voice actors

go ahead and name your favorite voice actor, and the person who you think does a great job but just does not seem to get the credit.

for me my favorite is a tough one but i love maurice lamarche. he does a greta job no matter the character and gives them a life of their own and if not for a few accentual staples he can never really get out of his voice unless he tries i do not think i could ever truly pick him out without the help of IMBD.

my unappreciated VA is mark hamill. i know he has alot of respect in the industry and most of us love his characters but i just think he does not get enough credit for the talent and quality he exudes every time he gives a character a voice. i did not even notice he was the fire lord until there was one line in the finale that just struck me as familiar, and i found out it was him. great voice actor.

tough choices, I'll go with a small exterpt
-Sean Schemmel, he fits the voice of Goku (DBZ) and Gonard (Kappa Mikey) perfectly
-Eric Stuart, too bad he was replaced, he was the voice of Brock
-Tara Strong
-the late Phil Hartman who did the voice of Troy McClure and Lionel Hutz in the Simpsons.......:(
-Paul Kligman, I liked his portrayal of J.Johan Jameson in the 1967-70 Spider-man, the way he gived a voice and character to J.J.J is priceless

Here one voice I could classifield in both favorite and least appreaciated voice actors: Grey Delisle, while she do a good voice of Frankie in Foster's Home of Imaginairy friends, I don't like her high-pitching voice she give to Tootie in Fairly Oddparents.

btw, could we include also voice actors who work in other languages like French with Roger Carel, known for his voice of Asterix, Daniel Gall who dubbed lots of characters in both cartoons and live-action series, Sebastien Redding, Ronald France, Benoit Marleau, Guy Pierrault, etc...?

You think Grey Delisle isn't appreciated? She's basically this generation's Kath Soucie, appearing in pretty much any animated show under the sun.

There alot of good voice actors, especially on animated movies. here's my favorite and least appreciated voice actors:

Trey Parker various voices on South Park
Matt Stone various voices on South Park
Tara Strong various voices on TV shows, movies.
Christian Potenza as Chris on Total Drama Island
Peter Oldring as Tyler, Cody & Ezekiel on Total Drama Island
Megan Fahlenbock as Gwen on Total Drama Island
Brian Doyle-Murray as Captain K'nuckles on The Marvelous Misadventure of Flapjack
Nick Jones as Chowder on Chowder
Dwight Schultz as Mung Daal on Chowder

There's too many talent voice actor out there that I can't relate to. :)

I just couldn't resist...

Bill Farmer and Nick Jameson, the original voices of Sam and Max.

Lucasarts, shame on you for not selling either of the Sam and Max games in which they voiced those characters. And Telltale, shame on you for using cheap imitation actors from the Bay Area. Both of those two companies are basically throwing those two actors' talents away in exchange for money, and it sickens me.

I can't think of any voice actors that are more underappreciated than those two. Sorry.

As far as I can tell Ed Baylock is pretty underapreaciated, he's an adiquite voice actor though slim in voices. Micheal Donovans underapreaciated aswell though he usually sounds pretty dumb with he yells, see the Street Fighter cartoon.

I don?t think Charlie Adler gets enough credit. He took a lot of flak for what happened with ?Tiny Toon Adventures?, but the guy always did a great job; he practically had conversations with himself in ?Cow & Chicken? due to how he voiced three of the main characters. I still enjoy his work to this day.

yeah i know he is appreciated but there are VAs like patrick warburton who get alot of work and who i think does a great job and everyone respects his work. that is great i love his characters. my point was that mark hamill does such a great job i do not notice his voice when he does a character, i just get into the character he is playing. because he does not have that singular voice that people in today's industry market so very affectively i think he goes somewhat unrecognized, until you realize what he can and has done.

he is a very accomplished voice actor that is well respected. i geuss the better word to describe him is inconspicuous.

i love phil hartman and am very sad he is gone, also hank azaria is great.

THIS.

... Does David Wain count? D; His only voice acting role is the Warden in Superjail, but in general he's pretty much just an internet celeb occasionally appearing in some non-mainstream movies... and Stella.

Uhm... how about Vanessa Marshall who did the voice of Irwin and Mandy's mom? She does mostly video game voice overs, but still, she needs more credit. XD And Maxwell Atoms, who created Billy and Mandy also did the voice of Jeff the Spider and has done some voice work for Chowder as well.

I think Dee Bradley Baker is really showing some range, not only in building great characters, but his ability to naturally pull off creature voices is amazing!!

Most of the VAs mentioned here are only underappreciated and unrecognized by Hollywood, like Mark Hamill for example. Animation fans (especially those of specific cartoons) certainly appreciate them for their work.

Trey Parker and Matt Stone don't qualify as "least appreciated" -- at the peak of South Park's popularity and from the movies they wrote/produced and appeared in, they became celebrities. Also, their fans love them.

And Tara Strong has thousands upon thousands of fans.

I don't like naming favorites. For starters, I've come to know so many of them through my various online activities and meeting them at cons that I prefer to avoid naming any favorites. I enjoy so many of them for their different talents and performances. Heck, I have a whole blog devoted to them (see my sig line), which was originally the web's only newsletter about voice actors since the late 90's.

So asking me to name a favorite voice actor is not unlike asking a parent who their favorite child is.

Farmer's been voicing Goofy since he assumed the role from Pinto Colvig in the late 80's, so I don't think he's underappreciated, especially not by Disney fans. And I don't think Jameson's underappreciated by either Star Wars or animation fans who recognize his work.

But I do agree with you that Farmer and Jameson were underappreciated by Telltale when they recast the voices for the games.

However, I did actually really enjoy Harvey Atkin and Robert Tinkler as Sam and Max (respectively) in the FoxKids animated series. In the original game, Farmer's voice for Sam was like a sarcastic Humphrey Bogart. Atkin's performance as Sam was... well, Atkin, though funny nevertheless -- reminded me a little of what McGruff The Crime Dog would sound like if he were a little bit of a smart-arse.

I actually didn't know about the 2001 "Plunge Through Space" game until you mentioned "either" game that LucasArts didn't release. I'm kinda glad it wasn't released for the XBOX at least -- graphical adventures were never easy to navigate on that console. Hate to see any of Steve Purcell's projects wasted though.

And I blame MMO's for killing the "Freelance Police" PC game. I wish LucasArts would have at least finished it and made it available online as a game download instead of flushing the entire project down the toilet. What a colossal waste.

MMO's killed the graphical adventure star.

Sean Schemmel - One of the best anime VAs out there. His Goku goes leaps and bounds over the japanese VA (no offence intended, the jp VA did a great job as well), as he's pretty good as Gonnard from NN's Kappa Mikey.

Dan Green - Okay, yes, he's mostly a 4Kids dub VA, but you can't deny his Yami Yugi, it was pretty awesome, given the material. His Knuckles from Sonic X on the other hand...yeah, no.

Dee Bradley Baker - His creature voices...'nuff said.

Brian Doyle-Murray - He's done various voices over the years, but when he stick on to a recurring character in a series, he makes the character quite charming. The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack's Captain K'nuckles is a prime example.

There are a couple of others, but I would probably ramble on too much.

Favorite? Oooooh, tough call! Being that I grew up during the 60's & 70's, I'd have to give the nods to Casey Kasem, who parlayed his early VA work into "American Top 40" and iconic status, and Michael Bell.

Underappreciated? I'd have to say Phil LaMarr. The man is one of the busiest guys in the biz today, and at one time was on two of the hottest shows at the same time (Justice League & Samurai Jack). Remember, too, he used to be on MadTV back in the day (how they let him go is a mystery).

EXACTLY! I wish Lucasarts would finish that game too! But I think they're only not finishing it because people are allowing Lucasarts to not finish it... people are too spineless to stand up to Lucasarts and actually take action. I'm not one of those people because I'm too strong-willed a person to sit idly by while stuff like this happens. I speak my mind. And I think every person on this forum who liked the original voices should do the same thing and speak their minds as well, am I right, people?
