Your Deepest Musical Secret

Prog = odd timings and chord progressions in the context of traditional songwriting.

Post Rock = odd timing and chord progression in the context of doing the opposite of what a traditional songwriter would (usually enRAB up meaning its just really slow and droning...though there are exceptions)

Math Rock = Odd timing and chord progression with absolutely no regard for traditional songwriting...the math writes the music, basically.

Other people may have other opinions on this, but that is how I distinguish them in my head.

I find it funny that most fans of Linkin Park deride Minutes to Midnight yet I actually liked it best out of all their albums... I guess maybe because it was a departure from a style I wasn't initially all that fond of...

They weren't awful as pop banRAB go, and they wrote most of their own stuff, so the level of manufacturing / marketing was at least at sane levels... They basically spilt when the main songwriter and Darren hayes decided to work on separate projects... Hayes later outed himself as ***, and I really don't know what the heck the other guy is doing... I believe he was becoming more interested in production...

I had a friend who was really into them big time, and I liked a few of their songs...

oh damn it did it really blot out that word... I mean that Darren Hayes has come out of the closet as a h0m0sexual... but geez, its a common term and I didn'tuse it in a derogatory way... oh hail the overzealous political correctness of our modern era!

since when are they not cool?

seems to me being erabarrassed about liking The Police is like being erabarrassed about liking chocolate. they're both awesome

I'm fairly certain part of the reason they don't like SOAD is beacuse they are soft rockers that don't like metal in general, not because of any special intelligence on their part
