Your age and the song that REALLY hooked you onto music?

When I was 11 years old or so I asked my older brother's teenage friend (who was blasting music in his headphones at the time) what the big deal about music was, and let him know that I was never really into it. All he replied was, "just wait till you reach puberty and ask me then." Being an intelligent 11 year old that I was, I laughed at the word "puberty" and went on playing my video games.

-Cut to 2 years later- I'm going through my lonely, "I don't really understand myself and nobody does either" phase and I hear the Red Hot Chili Peppers - Under the Bridge playing on the radio. That was it. I still remeraber how deeply that beautiful melody and lyrics passed through me. I fell in love right then and there and music has been a big part of my life ever since (I'm still young, 20).

I guess I'm curious to see what age you guys were when music really struck a chord with you, so to speak, and if you happen to remeraber a specific song that might have done it?

umm 10 or 11 but it was Anarchy in the UK by The Sex Pistols i heard it when i was playing tony hawk's pro skater 4 and thought 'woah'

The Beatles, "Get Back", when I was 11 years old, I really started to take music more seriously after hearing this song.

I was 8 or 9 when I listened to "6th Avenue Heartache" by The Wallflowers. And a year or two later my neighbor gave me Bringing Down The Horse. :)

I would have been about 11 by the time I really appreciated it but, What's The Frequency Kenneth? by R.E.M. It was around the time I was just starting to get into the band (Stand, Sidewinder, End of the world all followed). Haven't looked back since!

5 years old, my big brother brought home Twisted Sisters Stay Hungry and had me listen to We're Not Gonna Take It. Hooked for life... I used to listen to everything he said was good, until I didn't get his Pink Floyd The Wall when I was 11 or 12 (I get it now, yet still don't really like it) or some that's when I started listening to more more independantly. He got me a Nervermind cassette then, and that solved that temporary musical lethargy.

Jeeeez... what got me INTO music... it's a little erabarassing what you come up with - what you liked when you were a kid. This could really be a multi-answer question... depending on what kind of hooked we're talking about. Here are a few moments of my personal music history...

Highway To The Danger Zone - Kenny Loggins
I loved Top Gun when I was a kid. This was the big song in Top Gun.... I used to sit next to my TV while it was playing and hold my Talk Boy up to the speakers to record this song. I'd listen to it at a childcare thing we had called Latchkey before school started.

Brain Stew - Green Day/Bohemian Rhapsody - Queen
The song that got me into what I'd consider... my "beginning to explore" phase. Also the first time where I sat around with frienRAB and listened to music. We all had bootleg copies of "Insomniac" the Green Day album that contained this song. With these same frienRAB, we also rented Wayne's World and really started to get into Bohemian Rhapsody.

We Are the Champions - Queen
I was a kid when Mighty Ducks 2 came out - and all of the actors who I adored in the movie broke out into this song at the end of the movie around a campfire... then you hear Freddie take over as the credits roll. Beautiful.

Goddamnit - Alkaline Trio
Yes, this is an album... but... it is what got me out of mainstream **** that I had gotten sucked into (Limp Bizkit, Korn, Linkin Park) when I was in 6th grade.

Yeah one of mine was Give It Away.
Apart from all the pop i listened to when i was 8 to 11 Gorillaz - Clint Eastwood was a big song for me, i played it over and over.

Well, it was As I Lay Dying's song The Darkest Nights and it was when I was 13. I hate AILD, but I do have to give credit to them for giving me a huge interest in music.
