You've posted on 5 different boards since joining Health Message Boards in October of 2004. Since that time many, many compassionate, knowledgable people have taken the time to address your concerns.

Perhaps its time to accept responsibility for your own health, and take the necessary steps to get the health care you apparently need.

As caring and compassionate as the members of these boards are, they can't diagnose, treat, or cure you.

I sent Benit a private message. But everyone should know that acidophilus and other probiotics take a long time to work. But they DO work, if depletion is the problem. Once they get colonized in your gut, you will feel a million times better. This can take a few months.

Then you'll need to keep taking them, maybe a lower dose, once a day.

Getting colonics can be really helpful for severely constipated people. It's comfortable, not as harsh as it sounds.

Well Bill I guess you do see that people do in fact care--by far the best response has come from feelbad.

My short response (if that is really possible for me) is-one poster mentioned nerve problems, and yes that in fact can be a possibility. If you have every hurt your back or neck, one of the questions that a good doctor will ask you is "do you have any urinary or bowel problems?" remember the nerves in your body speak to your head and instruct the parts of the body to do things--move your arms, walk, speak, breath and yes time to go to the bathroom. A good neurologist would be the doctor to see. Another possiblility is the mobility in your bowl may not be functioning properly. This happens if someone has a history of overuse of laxatives (anorexic or bulamic patients are prime examples) it can also be caused by you guess it --Nerves. Another poster mentioned your colon maybe twisted, well that is certainly worth checking out. I do not know how old you are; however, if you are 50 or older you are ripe for a colonoscopy, that will certainly give the doctors a good picture of your colon. Personally, I was having problems myself--my saving grace, apples, pears lots of veggies, drinking lots of water and peppermint tea. I also really changed my diet, I actually went on a diet to loose weight (20 lbs so far) and stopped eating junk food and really concentrated on eating whole grain cereals for breakfast along with a low calorie yogurt, a piece of fruit mid morning (bananna or apple) a light lunch (not a sandwich) and the very best no sugar added dark choclate pudding (jello). I do not know if the fact that I have cut out alot of sugar and carbohydrates from my diet, however, I can attest to the fact that things are moving along quite well these days. Since you have had problems for awhile, I would certainly not expect miracles overnight, in fact if you ate 2-3 apples or pears a day you may begin to see some improvement, however, I would not be surprised if getting you into a routine would take a few months and that would be if you continued and did not give up.

These are all suggestions, but I think the best first step is to see a professional-make an appointment with your primary care to start the ball rolling.

I knew if would be to good to be true that my response would be short.

Good luck Bill--I feel your pain

Thanks a lot for your response and you're right, people do care. feelbad's response is appreciated. I have been needlessly confrontational for some reason. My fault.

I've been attempting the candida diet for a week--both for the severe constipation/IBS-C and also to see if my other health problems might be helped by it. I've done very well with getting rid of refined sugar (except for today when I added a little to my coffee) but haven't been able to ditch the bread completely. And there is no way in hell that I can stay off all grains and most fruits. Caffeine is also a no-no so I guess I'm trying the "liberal" candida diet.

Actually I really don't know what to believe anymore. Mainstream medicine doesn't go for the alternative medicine view that "systemic candida" affects so many people, and some gps don't believe in it at all.

I think you misunderstood me--you NEED to eat the grains and I have at least two fruits a day. (Apples and Pears seem to be really great for regularity). Stay away from Cranberries and that includes the dried cranbrerries). I also have a salad every day.

I am really not familiar with systematic candia--I actually do not do alternative medicine. I am simply just trying to eat a healthier diet. I have actually been sick off and on since Dec 2005 and part of the illness is that I have developed a problem with my heart and I now have a cardiologist and Primary Care wanting me to go on cholestrol lowering medication. (These doctors are only doing their job, I do have a history of a previous stroke suffered when I gave birth to my daughter) I of course refuse, so I am controlling my cholestrol with diet. I have always heard that drinking coffee is as good as having a laxative.

It is sometimes difficult finding a doctor who is willing to branch out from tradional to alternative, however, they are out there. You just have to keep looking.

When I was sick I so all types of doctors--neurologist, oncologist, cardiologist and electrophysiologist. Some where receptive to look "outside the box" and some just really stuck with what they knew. My savior was actually one of the two neurologist who I saw that mentioned a rare side effect to one of the medications that I was taking and got me an immediate appointment with my oncologist. My oncologist really did not agree, however, she did take me off that medication. The majority of my symptoms cleared within 6 months .

Keep plugging along, but do not totally discount modern medicine.
