You'll never guess who topped this Character List (rolls eyes)

Joy. Another thread where someone posts a list and everyone tries to pass opinions as facts.

The list is "100 Greatest Characters in the past 20 years". Since Homer's peak personality took place during those 20 years, then Homer beats everyone else, easily. The character may be pretty bland nowadays, but just because he's like that now doesn't mean he can't be judged by his good days. I'm sure that's what the list went for.

Tsk, tsk. You didn't read the article, did you?

I think people are getting confused due to what the original post said as well as the news article said. They're referring to the list of greatest characters EW posted as being conterversial, not that it's a list of conterversial characters.

Actually I have EW and do have the list and yeah there do seem to be a lot of characters that just came out who may only have some flash in the pan popularity. Though I think it's obvious why the Simpsons is number one. Not only due to Homer being around for 20 years (actually long since he's been around since 1987 which is 23 years. Wait so does that mean he shoudln't count on the list since he's from the 80's technically?) and still going, but also because EW just adores the series, even to this date. Homer and the Simpsons have made a lot of top lists on Entertainment Weekly over the years so it makes sense he'd make this one as well. Personally I'm more disappointed in how EW just gave some random quotes for some of the characters that deserved to be spoken about as well. (Like Cartman. The "Scott Tenorman Must Die" quote means nothing out of context).

There should be plenty of bad guys on that list. Bad guys usually are better developed characters.

I don’t get the  unless the whole last 20 years of Homer have been bad.
I liked the pre 90’s Simpsons, I looked forward to their shorts on the Tracey Ullman show all the time. But compared to the post 80’s Simpsons, they were a bit amateurish.

We could toy with the term “jilted lovers.”

Quite right.
Oddly enough, the article doesn’t even say Homer is a controversial decision. It’s choices further down that it has a problem with.

Maybe it's because I've been watching Daria, but I was surprised she didn't make the list, especially over a ton of the characters they did put in. Oh well. She's used to being overlooked.
