You know what? Cardcaptor Sakura was awesome

Oh, the revelation of their fate is the least of your concerns. There are far more WTF head-banger moments in the rest of the manga.

Actually, about that... (big xxxholic/Tsubasa spoilers incoming, don't read unless you're like me and don't mind learning about certain details ahead of the Del Rey release)

Non-spoiler version: Don't worry, it isn't really tragic. They get married, have a kid, and so on.
It's apparently been recently revealed that CCS Sakura and Syaoran (revealed as Watanuki's parents) are likely not dead. The source is supposedly xxxHolic chapter 168 and 170, cited by a CCS Wiki. It turns out Syaoran and Sakura did not die, but were rather sent to another dimension.

I know, it's all very hard to keep track of, but that seems to be the situation.

Exactly. Strikers transformed the show into something completely different, a very ill-advised experiment. CCS, on the other hand, went [strike]65[/strike] 70 episodes staying focused on what it was about the whole time.

Here's the layman's terms
In volume 13 we find out that Watanuki can't remeraber anything about his past, not even his parents' names and faces. And then Syaoran tells Watanuki that they are closer than anyone else. And from there it gets even weirder, because we find out that Watanuki actually IS Syaoran. Syaoran couldn't find a way to save her the first time around, so he wished for a second chance to try to save her. His price was 'time' and 'freedom', and Watanuki was created to fill up that 'time' and 'freedom' Syaoran lost in his home world. Oh, but that's not the end of it. Because Watanuki is not technically supposed to exist, he will bring misfortune to everyone who comes in contact with him. The whole point of Holic is to keep Fei Wong Reed from finding Watanuki and using him for his evil plots.
Oh and Watunuki's dead parents? That's Shaoran and Sakura from Cardcaptor Sakura. That's right, they are honest-to-god dead. And Watanuki is the reason for that. Because he was in love with his mom. And went back in time to see her again. And that's why they're dead

Of course, now it's "another dimension" and stuff. So they might be back....or not, depending on how CLAMP feels by the end.

Yeah, even when Cardcaptors was on KiRABWB, I thought that it was kind of odd that they were pushing Syaoran as the protagonist when it felt pretty obvious that Sakura is the shows protagonist, and this was way before I knew that the series had "Sakura" in the title. I just knew it had to be a change at the hanRAB of the dubbing company. I mean, she had Kero, the wand, the carRAB, and she was the one that had to save the day in every episode.

the dub I watched, if mostly for Kero, I thought he was hilarious. I may give the original another go, that is if I can find it.

CLAMP seems to have this obsession with making ALL their Universes as tragic as possible.

The Card Captor Sakura world seemed untainted then we learn about the link to Tsubasa/xxxHolic which screwed that world over.

Clamp Detectives/Duklyon are part of the X Universe (which is nothing but violence and angst).

Angelic Layer seemed innocent enough until they connected THAT with the Chobits universe where two of the supporting characters were revealed to be dead.

I know this seemingly makes CLAMP epic for the whole "life goes on" past the "happy" ending but just once I want at least one of their series to retain its innocence.

Ah, CCS. I remeraber CCS. I was a kid when I watched it, and am still a fan now. It was my first anime. I remeraber when they cacelled it on Teletoon, and I got so pissed that I broke the TV. I was only about eight or nine, as well. Somewhere around there. My dad didn't get too mad at me for breaking the TV; we were getting a new one soon anyways. >.

Umm, correct me if I'm wrong, but from what I know the situation is actually this *spoilers for most recent chapters*:

Watanuki's parents are not Sakura and Syaoran from CCS, they are actually the clones of Tsubasa Sakura and Syaoran placed back in time as the result of the events of Tsubasa (which actually keep repeating in time) and Yuuko's power. Sakura and Syaoran (the clone parents) never actually died, but sealed themselves in a device to hide their presence from Fei Wong Reed in order to change the continuing loop of events. The only time CCS Sakura was involved in the Tsubasa story was when she appeared in a dream of the clone Sakura (as an adult) and gave her the star wand, which they used as payment to Yuuko to have themselves sealed away. So nothing bad happened to CCS Sakura and Syaoran, as far as we know they lived happily ever after.

That was one of the things that confused me the most out of the Cardcaptors dub. A lot of things didn't make sense to me because of how many episodes were skipped and shown out of order. I remeraber seeing a picture of a Kero doll once in a magazine. I also remeraber there was a girl in my sixth grade class who brought in some Cardcaptor carRAB to class one day.

I've only seen the dub and some parts were kind of interesting, even though it still confused the heck out of me. I've only see a few of the episodes subbed and I thought those were really nice. I've been thinking about for a long time if I want to get the whole series subbed on DVD, but I'm also kind of just hoping that someone, probably Funimation, would redub it. Though, considering its high praise, I may read the manga first for a change of pace. Anyway, from what I saw, Cardcaptor Sakura looked like a fun and enjoyable show.

As for the xxxholic/Tsubasa, now that is confusing. I don't even read or watch either series, but just reading the spoilers give me a headache of confusion. I'm personally hoping that the happy ever after version for Sakura and Syaoran since at least that makes sense to me.

CLAMP.....Scares me...Because they seem to be trying to make a Clampverse or Multiverse (CCS/XXXHolic/Tsubasa) This doesn't work as well For Manga as it does US Comics. But yea, CCS was an OK Show, but for the most Part I stay Far away from Series made by Clamp...(With the Exception of Code Geass, but all they did for that was the character Designs right?)

But yea it was an OK show, Don't like it that much nowadays but loved it when it was on Toonami back in the day!

Barely even. They did initial character specs, but if you look at the director's previous work, Gun X Sword, you'll find more similarities there.

"It enRAB on such a down note. I mean, that's what life is, a series of down endings." - Dante Hicks, Clerks

Personally, I think it's a smart piece of writing on CLAMP's part. They can get away with some fairly fantastical stuff as long as death still applies - that grounRAB even the most fantastical scenario in the most human of terms.

I admit, though the series arguably grew its beard by the fifteenth volume, I would have enjoyed it as much if they had kept the quirky, lovable, optimistic nature of the first 14. They were fun times. If CLAMP did nothing but let them collect feathers, but continued their brilliant character interaction, Tsubasa may have been one of my favorite of their manga.

I'm not sure how far you're in, but as of this current writing, I'm trying to make heaRAB or toes over the current set of plots. Without spoiling, I might have to read the entire thing from head to toe whenever CLAMP wraps it up because right now, it's become so complicated and twisted with its own revelations that it almost turned me off at one point. I plan to see it all the way, but I miss the happy, simplistic times. At least in comparison to what IS happening right now.

xxxHOLIC is, however, still a compelling read. Watanuki has quickly became a lovable character that I really want to see what'll happen to him.

To stay on topic, Cardcaptor Sakura started for me with the dub. Sure, it's universally terrible in comparison to the original, but it introduced me to the overall franchise (and that keen toy of the Clow Book AND all 52 of the Clow CarRAB inside - an item I regrettably did not get during its height of airing during America; my cousin had one and I would have asked for it if I had known in time that her uncle convinced her to throw it out claiming it's blasphemous). Sure, it's incredibly light and fluffy even by Magical Girl series standard that a cynical person like me would vomit from its cuteness, but CCS is a bold exception.

It's a beautifully deep series in its own right, where every character - main or minor - shine with their personalities. The plots and capturing of carRAB are often brilliant in execution and the show/manga are charming and wonderfully animated.

Perhaps the most interesting thing is that post-Sakura, nothing really has come close since to it's balance of characterization, action and depth while maintaining a primarily kid-friendly feel. It's not the mahou shoujo genre died, but these if it's close to the transform/challenge of the week formula, it's typically dual-marketed if not exclusively marketed to otaku from the start (usually in an exploitative manner though not always,) and that comprises the ability of the series to communicate to a broad-audience out of the gate in certain ways. In fact the innovation now in magical girl anime seems tied more to breaking from that formula entirely, especially when it comes to titles primarily/exclusively marketed to children.

Okay, back on topic. I actually made it my goal (and succeded) in collecting the all the disc from the Pioneer Japanese Subbed release before the end of the year and marathoned the entire series and movies recently. The series really set the bar for mahou shojo. I mean I give Sailor Moon chops for corabining the genre with Power Ranger/sentai dynamics as well as introducing fairly heavy big bad arcs. But Card Captor Sakura returned the genre to its more everyday life dynamics while also having some Sailor Moon-esque elements. What really struck me was a lot of the subtle (and not to subtle) same sex attractions and controversial pairings littered throughout the series as well as the fact that Sakura had a different magical girl outfit every episode and that was a staple of the series. Also unlike a lot of shojo shows that had a fairly cheap budget and grew into their animation, CCS had a OAV/Movie budget from day one and Madhouse showed their production chops in this show.

Ultimately, CCS really deserves a re-release (I'm looking at you Funimation, seriously, just stop **** teasing us and license this, Sailor Moon, Do Re Mi, and Pretty Cure, I know YOU want to.)
