You have to be 18 to buy pepper spray. Do you agree with this law? Why/why not?

I live in a bad neighborhood, put simply. I went to get pepper spray at a few different places - the first said store policy, the second say it "might be" a law, the third said it's definitely a law (not sure if it's local law or what) - you have to be 18 to buy pepper spray.

Do you personally agree with that law?
And why or why not?
(Just wanting opinions.)
 
I do agree. If they don't have an age limit anyone could go buy it. And then you could have some kids with it who might think it's funny to spray someone. If your not 18 and you want to get it because you live in a bad neighbourhood, I'm sure you could find someone to buy it for you.
 
If it's even a law(which I'm positive would be a city-level thing) I totally disagree with it.
There is no conceivable reason the government should be legislating non-lethal forms of self-defense and limiting their sale.
I would find a law forbidding the sale of pepper spray to minors on par with a law stating that a person must be 18 to buy a maglite(solid metal flashlight, or a whistle(rape prevention/theft prevention/assault prevention...).
If there were laws about this, it would seem to be more for a small town to generate revenue by fining stores they caught selling pepper spray to minors, as opposed to keeping the pepper spray out of the hands of minors.
of course, there would not be as much of a need for pepper spray in a smaller town, statistically speaking, but there you go. That's how the government works more often than not-how can we make a law to get more money for us?
 
I didn't know it was a law.
But I certainly don't agree with it. If women are looking for protection for potential threats and dangers, they should be able to access them with ease. Does a woman have to get killed at 17 before the government realises that pepper spray should be available to anyone at anytime.

But then again, I see why they have created this law (if it is even a law). This regulation was probably created to limit any risky behaviour associated with the use of pepper spray. For example, a 13 year old girl pepper spraying her brother in the eye because she thought it would be funny. So in other words, they don't want to sell pepper spray to minors who will be reckless with the 'weapon'. They want to sell it to people who will use it maturely, properly and during appropriate times.
