Meg is the queen of romantic movies!!!!And her chemistry with Tom undeniable!!!!
THis is actually a remake of a movie called "the little shop in the corner"[the name of meg's store in the movie] with James Steward and it is based on a novel!!!

Well, it's awesome. Now I want to go see the movie. The American President and You've got Mail are two of my most watched Rom Coms. :sigh: So perfect.

Oh my, Jo, your avatar. I loveee The American President. :sigh:

I agree as well.

BTW. Colin Hanks (Tom's son) is playing Meg's son in a new movie. :D How awesome is that?

I've seen only parts of this movie unfortunately. I hope I can find this at some Movie Store to rent it because I'm interested in seeing it.

I love the way that the beginning goes "dreams are nothing more than wishes...". When Joe goes to visit a sick Kathleen, that's great too.

Has anybody else seen the original movie, The Shop Around The Corner?

I prefer You've Got Mail, too. I'm just saying that Sleepless In Seattle especially proves how great their chemistry is when it can sell this concept of a movie where they don't really interact until the end.

Ms. Isabel- Aww that is such a cute quote! You seem to know the movie well :D

gvond- Ooo another Scott Patterson avie, he is one popular fellow ;)

Maril- I agree, so many cute scenes though I am a sucker for romantic comedies

I love this movie...the ending always makes me tear up...I watch it whenever it's on tv :)

I think Sleepless In Seattle is the greatest testament to it. I mean, all it takes is that one scene where he sees her at the airport. And they only interact once, very briefly [i.e., their "hello"s in the street], before the hand-holding ending. But it's believable, with them -- their chemistry sells it.

Back on topic, though. The best You've Got Mail quotes from Kathleen [Meg Ryan]:

"The odd thing about this form of communication is that you're more likely to talk about nothing than something. But I just want to say that all this nothing has meant more to me than so many somethings."

"Soon it will be something really depressing. Like a Baby Gap."

"It happened in Spain. People do really stupid things in foreign countries."

"You poor, sad, multimillionaire. I feel so sorry for you."

"All that means is that it wasn't personal to you. But it was personal to me. It's personal to a lot of people. And what's so wrong with being personal, anyway? Whatever else anything is, it ought to begin by being personal."

"But the truth is...I'm heartbroken. I feel as though a part of me has died and my mother has died all over again and nothing will ever make it right."

"Sometimes I wonder about my life. I lead a small life. Well, not small, but valuable. And sometimes I wonder, do I do it because I like it, or because I haven't been brave?"

"But there's the dream of 'someone else'."

And, one of my favorite exchanges ...

Kathleen: Why did you stop by again?
Joe: I wanted to be your friend.
Kathleen: Oh.

agree! and it's funny too. though i don't usually like romantic comedies, i happen to like this one.

hey steph  Im glad that you like this movie too. Tom and Meg are so cute in movies they do together. They need to do more together.

Very cute! I like Meg and Tom together better in other movies, but this movie is very sweet.

I love the ending.

I love this movie!!! My favorite scene (besides the ending that is) is when he visits her in her apartment when she is sick. I love how the "wheels" are set in motion there for their friendship and eventual love to blossom!
