I do not understand why people claim to be vegetarian and eat fish (or chicken). You are NOT vegetarian if you eat an animal. I am vegetarian and I don't eat meat (or eggs for that matter). It frustrates me when I hear people talk about being vegetarian, but occasionally eating meat. If you eat ANY animal you fall in another category, other than vegetarian. This is why people are so confused about what vegetarianism is.. because people like that MISINFORM those who do not understand.
*If you eat meat "occasionally", then you are a Flexitarian. This describes those who eat a mostly vegetarian diet, but occasionally eat meat.
*If you eat fish, but no other animal, then you are a Pescatarian. This describes those who abstain from eating all meat and animal flesh with the exception of fish.
*If you eat poultry, but no other animal, then you are a Pollotarian. This describes those who abstain from eating all meat and animal flesh with the exception of poultry (chicken, turkey, duck..)
*If you eat no meat at all, but eat dairy products you are a Lacto-Vegetarian. This describe a vegetarian who does not eat eggs, but does eat dairy products.
*If you eat no meat at all, but eat dairy products and eggs you are a Lacto-ovo-Vegetarian. This describes a vegetarian who eats eggs and dairy products.
*If you do not eat any meat, dairy, eggs, or another other substance derived from an animal then you are Vegan. Vegans do not eat meat of any kind and also do not eat eggs, dairy products, or processed foods containing these or other animal-derived ingredients such as gelatin. Many vegans also refrain from eating foods that are made using animal products that may not contain animal products in the finished process, such as sugar and some wines.
*If you eat only fruit, nuts, and seeds then you are a Fruitarian. This includes the 'fruit of vegetables' such as tomatoes. However they never eat the roots of plants such as carrots and potatoes.
I may sound like a nut, but I needed to vent. Does anyone else feel the way I do? Call it as you see it. You either eat meat or you dont; you're a herbivore or an omnivore. Thats all I have to say about that :]
Ciao.
