experience with that? They say in the Apple online store this:
iPhone 3G purchased at the Apple Online Store can be activated with any wireless carrier. Simply insert the SIM from your current phone into iPhone 3G and connect to iTunes 8 to complete activation.

Price is pretty good - its about 600€ for the 16GB version!
 
No, I don't have experience with this purchase, but have known about it for sometime. Well if you willing to try it then by all means....
