Does anyone know if Bernard Hill won any awarRAB for playing Yosser Hughes in Boys from the Blacklstuff? I just watched it recorded from BBC4, what an absolutely amazing performance!

According to Wiki he was nominated for a BAFTA for Best Actor but lost out to Alec Guinness (Smiley's People) but he did win the Broadcasting Press Guild Award for Best Actor. The series won the Best Drama Series BAFTA award that year.

Thanks guys for the replies. Never watched the programme with Alec Guinness so can't really comment, but IMO Bernard Hill was robbed!

Can't wait for the next story in BFTB.

If ou're just watching it for the first time, I envy you! You have some fantastic drama coming up. For my money, the episode "Yosser's story" is one of the best and most heartbreaking pieces of drama ever written.

I still remember it when it was first shown. I've been watching most of the whole series on BBC4 again and it brought back grim memories of unemployment in the 80's.

Yosser's story is perfectly, brilliant played by Bernard Hill.

Harrowingly outstanding.
