Yellow Jacket Sting - anything more I can do?

2 days ago I was stung by a yellow jacket. I took benedryle, cleaned it and iced it as directed on a web site. Yesterday I went and got meat tenderizer and have used it to try and neutralize it. Nothing is really helping. It's about double the size of a 50 cent piece, still very red and hot. I'm having no other allergic reaction.

First, is it normal for it to be 48 hours later and still this red/swollen and sore? Secondly, does anyone have any other tips that might help at this point. This is getting old real fast.

Thanks

I have been stung by wasps and bees but never a yellow jacket. I would think it would be similar though.

My bee stings lasted two or three days before they went down (untreated except for hydrocortizone cream) and my wasp sting on the palm of my hand once was four days.

I seem to remember when I was young and got a bunch of bee stings on my back from sliding down a hay stack that they made a paste out of baking soda and put on the stings. It supposedly helps draw any residual venom out of the sting.

I was feeling better by the next day.

Best of luck and keep us informed!

Thanks.

I gave up and went to the doctor today. The center, where it stung, was getting yellow with pus.

I didn't realize it can be up to a week for these to clear. Because it was getting infected I wanted to be safe but if anyone else confronts this, I think using a topical antibiotic cream sooner would have helped.

I'm hoping the burn is gone soon. It's almost interesting to watch. I can hold an ice cube about 1/2 inch from the skin and it still melts like it's laying in the sun! Sure don't want to do this again soon tho!

Yeah, this helps a lot. Though, my brother showed me to use a paste of alcohol and sugar. But it still has the same effect. I think the alcohol probably disinfects while the sugar helps draw the poison out. I consider it a magical cure because the past two times I used this trick right after getting stung by a wasp, the pain and most of the swelling was gone within a few minutes. Though the insane itching remained for a week.
But I'm not sure if the sugar or baking soda paste trick works that long after being stung.

Wish I known this one. I never saw it anywhere else. I went to the store and got the meat tenderizer and, as far as I could tell, it did nothing. And I made sure I had the ingredient they said was important.

It's now been 6 days and I am into the itch stage. Using the anti-itch cream and it also seems to not be doing a lot. But I can tell I am in the home stretch. Thank goodness.

Last year I opened my phone box outside and got stung by 3 yellow jackets in a second. It was nothing compared to this. Guess this one little meanie got more venom into me than those others combined.
