Year of Cyborg 009

Looks like 2009 is the year of the cyborg in Japan since they launched a new official website for Cyborg 009
http://009ing.com/

Too bad it doesn't have an english version of the site T_T

I miss that show, I wish whoever has the rights release the boxsets of the series already

I'm guessing this site is to promote the DVRAB of the original, 1970s, and early 2000s series (along with some additional merchandise).

If they do announce a new series sometime this year I hope it's the continuation of the relatively recent The Skull Man series.

It's funny, just lately I was thinking to myself that I kinda liked the early 2000s series when I used to catch it occasionally on Toonami, so I Netflix'd it just to find that only the first eight episodes are out on DVD in North America. Weak. Seriously, IIRC all 51 episodes are fully dubbed, so why on Earth would they hold out on us when it comes to the rest of them?

From what I can gather...this is just a memorial site. The Message page mentions that this year will be the 45th anniversary of the franchise and that they plan to have a big celebration on "Cyborg 009 Day" (July 19th). It also seems like they've gotten offers from overseas movie studios to produce a feature film based on the manga?

The site also has the first 40 pages of the first volume available to read, with future chapters to be available later.

Also...2012 seems to have some sort of importance...

A novel is suppose to be coming out called "Cyborg 009: 2012" which is apparently is the "conclusion" written by Shotaro Ishinomori. I wonder why it's taking this long to publish them.

They even dubbed the final three OVA episodes? (aka God's War - Conclusion)

Well I hope they rerelease the 1968 series soon. The DVD-box came out last year, and it's already impossible to find.

I hope this indicates something, I love Cyborg 009

And I guess I'm one of the few who owns the 8-episode DVD Sony released of the show

What's weird is that on Amazon, the main listing has it at about $36 new. But if you look under Amazon Marketplace, you can get it for as cheap as a buck fifty plus shipping, brand new. Now, usually when I see something like that, it screams "bootleg!" at me, but in this case, almost every seller has it listed for between a buck fifty and five bucks or so. I really can't imagine that they're ALL peddling bootlegs. Did Colurabia TriStar just vastly overproduce this title or something? 'Cause that's an insane bargain if legit.

I also have a DVD to this series, the second DVD which contains episodes 5-8.
It's a shame that Sony has not released the rest of this cool series on DVD.

I own both the uncut 8 episode release and the first edited volume (with just 4 episodes). IIRC, Sony's Australian branch DID release nearly every episode that aired on Toonami (and the episode they skipped) in one boxset, but it's edited only. However, no one has released the second season, or even has recorded copies of it (since it aired at 1AM on SVES).

You'd think that, since Sony released their entire Astro Boy dub onto DVD, they'd throw this onto DVD as well. I seriously hope that the supposed movie deal happens, so it can convince Sony to give the show a fighting chance beyond just 8 episodes (only other show I own like that is Bo-bobo, and at least Illumitoon had the excuse of being a failure overall).

I'll have to find one of those Australian releases. >_> I remeraber watching the 1AM airings back in the day of the Graveyard Shift... Ah, memories.

Yeah, I wish Bobobo would also come out on DVD... I bet FUNi will pick it up though one day. XD

Only thing remotely close to a curse I ever remeraber in the dub was the infamous "I am truly your brother from hell!" line that only showed up during the first Toonami airing (and was muted out from then on, even in the DVD releases).

But with murder and other things, they were only kept in the uncut dub. IIRC, the best example of this is the second episode, where one of the Black Ghost scientists was shot to death for trying to help the cyborgs escape. The dub pretty much cut out a lot of the extremely violent moments, but I won't deny that it did keep the overall message (they didn't even try to cover up that one guy who was clearly trying to kill himself).

FYI, for those of you who don't know the different releases, if you have this:
