Hi Babygirl,
I know that not everyone will have hairloss, but I will say that if you google yasmin and hairloss you will find thousanRAB of posts from women on the subject. It's apparantly very common with bcp, because of the hormonal shifts that occur in the body. My doc was clueless as well, so like with my skin I had to figure out on my own how to cure myself. I'm amazed at how little docs know on the subject of skin and hair. Maybe cause they figure it can't kill ya...The hairlos from the pill is referred to as a telogen effluvium. It's very common after childbirth as well, also triggered by the hormonal shift. After all the pill mimics pregnancy in the body, that's why you don't get preggers on it. Believe me if I were younger and not worried about synthetic hormones, i'd be all about it. If you're gonna be on the pill anyway, then Yasmin is probably one of the best for acne. It has a testosterone suppressing agent very similiar spiro. My skin was so much less oily, it was wonderful. I had some pretty bad mood swings, almost like a depression, but it wasn't until the hair loss that I decided to chuck it for natural methoRAB. Believe me, natural is not easy. The western diet is so screwy, we've deviated so far from how we were designed to eat. No wonder our hormones are a mess. The main point with diet and acne, is that eating the correct way helps control insulin, a master hormone, which in turn balances testosterone etc. I could go on and on, but the truth is unless someone wants to commit to natural it's not gonna help. Good luck with whatever works for you gals. If the pill gets it done w/ out neg side effects, that's awesome. Take care chickies.:)

Hey I've written a few post on here...because I've have mild-moderate acne...and I've tried EVERYTHING and nothing has helped. I dont want to try accutane because my acne isnt that severe. I'm pretty for sure my breakouts are hormonal and thats what most doctors think...so I went on Ortho Tri Cyclen and was on them for about 2 months and I know ppl say to give it time...but my face was broke out every single day for those 2 months and I've been reading on here about Yasmin. So I was wondering if Yasmin really does help and if there is an initial breakout and how long does it take? And if you have seen improvements do u ever get pimples anymore? Thanks!

Well one thing I have noticed about Yasmin though is that it gives me really bad anxiety. I literally have to stop and tell myself to calm down. But I'd rather deal with it by exercising then to stop taking it.

I've been on Yasmin for going on 5 months, and this is just my experience. The first 2-3 months my monthly outbreaks decreased. i had maybe 2 blemishes pop up. In the past month and a half or so, I haven't noticed any pimples poppin up at all. I've been trying to drink more water, and I also use a product called Acne and Scar Treatment. I believe these three things corabined have helped to improve my monthly outbreaks. The treatment has helped to reduce some of my old red marks.

I suggest trying Yasmin. Just pay attention to other symptoms though. Because Yasmin is a BC, it can effect other things, good or bad. In my experience though, Yasmin has worked wonders in all aspects!

Good luck!!

How long did it take before you started seeing any results? I know that everyone says to at least give each pill 3 months...but when I was on Ortho it was breaking out every single day and after two months, it wasn't getting better at all. Did you have an initial breakout?

I never really had "bad" acne.. but once pms kicked in I would get like 7 big zits pop out and maybe a little cluster of small white heaRAB.

I noticed a decrease in my monthly breakouts as soon as a month into using Yasmin. After about 3 months I haven't had a breakout at all.

Someone mentioned hair loss. When I first read about this I was paranoid! Naturally I lose a few stranRAB through out the day. I asked some ladies how they could tell the difference between natural shedding and actually losing their hair. They said, if you run your fingers through your hair, and 10+ stranRAB comes out, or if you clogged a clean shower drain after a shower then you may be experiencing BC related hair loss. So far, I'm in the clear on that. But it's something to keep an eye on.

But Yasmin defintely contributed to the improvement of my skin!

I just posted in another discussion on here so you might want to read that to get all the details. To make a long story short...yasmin saved my skin. It was so bad I didn't want to leave the house. Big painful cystic acne on my jawline, which was hormonal. 8 months into yasmin I am pretty much zit free. One here and there, but that doesn't compare to the many hard cysts I would have at a time before that I never get anymore. I don't remeraber an initial breakout, it just stayed the same for the first few months...but I stuck with it and am so pleased with the results. Nothing has ever worked this well. So if you do try it...you must stick with it. It took a few months to work and now it just gets better and better. I love it!

Krista,
I tried Yasmin for about a year and I will say it worked very well for my acne. It also caused me to lose alot of hair. I had read about the hairloss before I went on it and just figured I'd dodge the bullet, but I didn't. About the time I went on Yasmin (37, cystic acne and just at me wits end tried everything since the age of 14 can't take anymore, enough already) I was also researching the effects of diet on acne. But I just didn't want to commit and risk it not working. So I tried the yasmin and as I said it worked, but now I've lost about 50% of my hair, no lie. What I'm trying to say if you are at all interested in a natural approach, I can lead you to some information that may help. I am successfully controlling my acne with diet for about 6 months now. FooRAB like high glycemic carbs, sugar, bread, dairy (low glycemic but conversely highly insuligenic?sp, anyway there's tons of info out there on the subject and I thought it was a pipe dream too. Loren Cordain has an ebook called the Dietary Cure for Acne, it's a must read for anyone with this dreaded affliction.

Yeah, I would say it was the same up until about 4 months and I was getting really frustrated and didn't want to stay on it because of the cost...$50 a month because it's not covered by insurance for me. But I stuck with it and it was definitely better by 6 months and now it just gets better and better. I used to not want to leave the house even with a lot of makeup on and now I go out most of the time without it. I would say now at 8 months I am about 98% clear. Just a little teeny tiny zit here and there. Your body will take a while to adjust to the hormones...so if you do go on it stick with it for over 5 months. I have tried so many things for the acne and this is the only thing that ever worked for me. But then again, I was sure that my acne was hormonal. If your acne is not, it may not help. I would check to see how much it will cost if you are thinking of trying it and decide whether it is worth it. For me, no cost is to great to have clear skin. I finally have my confidence back and feel like I need to hide from the world.

When did you notice the greatest improvement. Was it at the 8 month point or sooner? Like was it much better at 6 mos. and then kept improving?

Krista,
I have heard of some people losing their hair but not very many. Not to say you are wrong stojack that could have been the case for you. I asked my doctor about this before I started Yasmin and she said that it does not cause hair loss and she had never heard of that. I don't know about all that but I have been on Yasmin for 2 years and it has helped my skin alot. You just have to stick with it for about 3-6 months to get past the initial breakout. I do still get one or two pimples from time to time around my period but nothing like before! And another great thing no weight gain! I have been on Alesse and Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo and I gained weight on both of them. Hope I helped!

Thanks for these posts - I've been on Yasmin for three months now and not seen any improvement in my skin (mild/moderate acne, mostly on my chin), so was about to switch to something cheaper (though I'm pretty lucky because here in Cayman, as in Europe and South America, Yasmin is only around $10 a month - why is it so expensive in the US I wonder?? Oh and its nothing to do with it being subsidised or insurance or anything in case you're wondering. And regular BCPs are around $1 per month!). Anyway, after reading your posts I'm going to stick with it for a few more months - I had no idea that it might take longer than 3 months to see an improvement in acne.

One thing - I'm hopefully just being paranoid (my husband says I am), but I think my facial hair has increased since being on Yasmin. Has anyone else experienced this?
