Hi,

Im having problems with my 1980 yamaha XS400. Oil and oil filter is new, the gas filter and hose is new and the carburator has been checked for the correct settings.
But it takes 15-20 kicks to start the engine after it has been in the garage for 2 days.

While driving, it can run perfectly and responds good to the throttle with power. However, there are times when it will instantly stall even when the throttle is up as if the kill switch has been moved.

Where does the problem lie?
Is it the kill switch itself or are there issues with the electrical wiring? or the coils.

Thank you in advance.

don't you have a vacuum fuel tap?,if you have a pri setting, meaning prime, and the carburettor tops are domed then you do.i'd get the tap checked.i would have said check your float heights but you say the carbs are set.it could be an electrical fault
