I recently acquired an 87 yamaha riva 80cc scooter with 1700 miles on it. It starts fine and runs good once its going, but it dosent idle well at all. When sitting still thengine will rev up and then die down considerably, to the point where the headlight nearly turns all the way off, then revs up again. When twisting the throttle it dosent seem to rev at the same time you twist it. When riding it and slowing down and/or stopping, you have to rev it slightly or it will die completely.
I have tried playing with the big adjustment screw on the carb every which way, and it does not correct the problem. If i screw it too far in one direction it wants to die every other revolution. If i adjust it the other way it wont die but revs so hard that you cant stop or slow down when you need to.
What is going on here? This is a saftey issue to say the least..
