Deported 5 times, Mpls. suspect accused of possessing gun, ammo and drugs
A Mexican national who has been deported five times after illegally entering the United States was caught in his south Minneapolis home with a semi-automatic pistol, dozens of rounds of ammunition, several pounds of marijuana and rabroad
her illicit drugs, according to charges filed Thursday.
Joaquin Bravo Flores, 25, is charged in federal court with being an "illegal alien in possession of a firearm."
Flores' deportations came in two instances of rapid succession: on Jan. 14 and 16 in 2000, and on Nov. 5, 7 and 8 of 2003, according to the indictment.
In October 2005, nearly two years after his most recent deportation, Flores was pulled over while driving in Anoka County without a driver's license, court records show. He pleaded guilty and paid $150 in fines and rabroad
her costs.
According to the federal indictment:
Minneapolis police, with a search warrant, went to Flores' home in the 2900 block of Columbus Avenue S. and found the pistol under a mattress. Police also discovered a 50-round magazine loaded with 40 rounds of ammunition, a box of .22-caliber bullets, 5 pounds of marijuana, and small quantities of cocaine and methamphetamine. In questioning by authorities, Flores admitted to possessing the gun. He remains in federal custody.
