y is it that education is one of the first things?

cut from a budget, but then the politicians turn around and say that we need smarter ppl in the US so we can keep up with other countries in the race for green tech and things like that? how can they have their cake and eat it too?

Because for every state, education is the number one item in the budget. Legislators figure they can cut a little here, a little there, and it won't hurt at all. Of course, it does, and if we cannot produce the best and the brightest (and we certainly have the raw material) we will fade, as a nation, into economic obscurity.

Because republicans care about thier money more now, than the problems down the road poor educations buy.
