XP and Photoshop on different partitions?

I just made myself dizzy reading countless sites and forums on the intricacies of this topic, so I could use a really nice summary answer here.

Just got a new PC, with XP Pro preinstalled. I have my copy of Photoshop CS4 sitting here ready to be installed. (For the purposes of this question, I guess it could be any software.)

Performance-wise, will I benefit by partitioning the drive, creating a (small-ish) partition for the OS while using the remaining drive space for Photoshop and other progs?

it wont be faster, more like slower, when u tartitionate ur drive u just split it, like u split a cake, its still the same disk BUT its on another area of it, meaning it will be as fast as befor or mby a little slower, cuz its still geting the program form the same disk as ur OS is on :P
