I may be using xolair if I qualify through my blood level.

I find out when I go to my asthma doctor this coming Tuesday.

Does anyone use it and what side effects are they having.

Thanks.

I've had 6 months of Xolair shots so far with absolutely no side effects at all. Winter and spring are typically worst for me so the upcoming months will be the biggest tests for how effective the Xolair is for me. Up to this point, it appears to be helping.

Unfortunately, I didn't qualify per insurance. My IgE was qualifying, but my PFT's didn't. I ended up getting sponsored through a foundation grant for one year of treatment.

Thanks for letting me know about your experience with xolair.

I hope it helps you in the spring and winter.

11 months of Xolair with no apparent side effects. A lot of people in my asthma doctors office are now on Xolair compared to earlier in the year. I had 2 bad asthma flareups in June and late Sept so it's not clear to me that it's helping, but the doctors say the flareups would have been much worse if not for Xolair. In July 2009 the FDA announced a review of Xolair for heart side effects - after much thought I decided to take Xolair in spite of the FDA review because of very difficult to control asthma. Here's a link to that report which you may wish to discuss with your doctor: http://www.fda.gov/Drugs/DrugSafety/PostmarketDrugSafetyInformationforPatientsandProviders/DrugSafetyInformationforHeathcareProfessionals/ucm172218.htm

Thanks for your comments about xolair. The heart side effects was one of the side effects I had read about. I also read that there was a small increase of the chance of cancer but I don't remeraber what site I read that on. Have you ever heard of that?
I will check that site out.
I am on prednisone alot and there are alot of side effects from that so for me I think it is worth it to try it.
Good luck with your asthma.

Happy New Year to Everyone!

Yes I read about the cancer risk but it still sounded low, around a couple percent, so I didn't worry much about it. I was also on lot a prednisone which had terrible side effects for me including severe sleep disruption and now cateracts (surgery will be in Feb). The goal for Xolair was to limit prednisone but I've still taken a lot of prednisone in 2010 as well as other inhaled steroiRAB - hopefully 2011 will be better.
