Xbox screen acting up? What could cause this?

I turned on my xbox today and after playing it for a few minutes the screen started acting up, its like the screen wasnt moving but the colors were, and then it would show lines for colors, and then the bottom half of the screen would freeze. Are there any ways to prevent this from happening or figure out what is causing this malfunction?
