Xbox live won't work? Network adapter broken? Pleeease help.?

My xbox live won't work, and when I go to configure network settings, almost all of my settings are deleted. IP settings are on automatic but say 0.0.0.0, same with DNS settings. On PPPoE settings everything was deleted so they say "not set". I entered all of the automatic stuff manually, and I reentered the user name and password, but I don't know what to put in for "service name" or advanced settings. I have a clue that it might be my network adapter. If I'm thinking correctly, shouldn't it be the one to pick this stuff up automatically? Please help me. Thanks for looking.
