Xbox Live Wireless Adapter? Please Help!?

Last Friday night, I bought a Linksys wireless router and set it up the next day. I also bought an Xbox Live Wireless Networking Adapter. When I tried to use the Adapter, it said "disconnected" in the tests. One of my friends who know a lot about these brought his over, and his said it was connected. I took the Adapter back, and got another one. This one does the same thing. I have checked the list of routers compatible with Xbox Live, this one I have works, because I ended up just putting an Ethernet cable into it. I can play live like this, but I prefer not to have the wires.

My dad wants to send the system back and get a new one because he thinks something is wrong with it. I don't want to have to go through another system, so what should/could I do to fix this?
 
Is there a "steady" red light on the adapter?
Do this. In the dashboard, go to the System blade. Now select "Network Settings", then "Edit Settings", and then "Wireless Mode". This will find any router your 360 adapter can connect to. Select your router and test connection.
