xbox 360 problem....?

I purchased a HDMI cable for my xbox 360 only to find as im putting it in that there is no HDMI output!!!! i called microsoft and they said that its an older one so basically i paid more of less. do u know how i can possible trade this one in to microsoft, maybe tell them something???
PS: i cant return it its more than 3 yrs old.
