XBox 360- Help!!!!!!?

when I put a disc in is says it is unreadable. It stopped working a few days ago when it sounded like it was eating my discs...My uncle left me his XBox 360 and has since passed away so I dont have any receipts and the microsoft warranty has expired. I dont want to pay the C note to get it fixed, does anyone have suggestions? Someone told me to leave it on bc its on the verge of crapping out and once the cirle of lights turns red they will replace the system free of charge. Is this true? If so, how can I speed up the process?

yea they call that the ring of death... that happend to my husbands xbox 360 and he called customer service and he did not have a warranty or reciept all he had to do is give out his information to register his 360 with the company and then a week later they had send him a box to put his 360 and send it back to the manufacter and 2 weeks later he got a brand new xbox 360...hope this one doesn't mess up ..thinking about purchasing the extended warranty plan !!! Good luck Don't use dvds or cds to play on your 360 that will mess it up .
