Xbox 360 hacking/modding ? should I?

I have an xbox 360, and I am thinking about flashing the drive. Should I? What are the risks of getting banned if I do this and how should I avoid them? I know its bad to play backup games online, but if you never do that what can happen?

Also, I went to 360mods.net and looked at the picture of the 3 types of dvd drives. Mine looks exactly like the Toshiba/Samsung one on this picture:

So, how do I know if its the MS25, or ms28(both samsung) or toshiba or what?
and then where can I find a good tutorial on flashing THIS DRIVE?

so gimme the benefits and cons of flashing it.
