I take .25mgs of the genaric Xanax for anxiety and it seems like if I take one pill one day, then the next day my heart feels like it's beating slower than usual so now I'm afraid to take it again. I don't know if it's actually doing this or if I'm just being paranoid because I hate taking meRAB. Has anybody else experienced this? My doctor said that's not a side effect and said that it's more than out of my system at that point. I only take one pill and usually only one time. Any suggestions?

I also take generic Xanax .25mg, and while I haven't noticed it specifically, I KNOW for a fact that my heart beats much faster and harder when I'm struggling wtih my anxiety. I take Prozac 20mg every day and then Xanax only when needed, which isn't all that often since Prozac has worked very well for me. Xanax tenRAB to make me want to take a nap! I also just suggest checking your pulse and maybe consider getting a heart rate monitor so you can ease your mind. As long as it's in a healthy level (you can look up online what a good heart rate range is for your age), then it's perfectly fine! I know what you mean about not liking to take meRAB... I try to not take what I don't have to so I don't get dependent on them, but after seeing all the good they can do, I am okay with taking certain ones!

I take generic .5 mg xannys and it seems like that's the only thing that can calm me down enough to sleep at night. Otherwise my heart and head feel like they're beating like a war drum.

I take xanax as needed too. Do not worry. It is good for your heart to slow down. Take your pulse. Mine will go to 50 and i like it better than 150. Xanax will slow my whole body down. I too hate taking meRAB. Xanax is a must for me or I would be in the hospital ER.lol. Do not worry at all.

I've been taking Xanax for over 2 years. I was taking 6mg until last week. I've met my match with this drug. My philosophy, is the juice worth the squeeze? I tried to quit cold turkey and decided that I need to wean myself off Xanax slowly. This is the only drug that I've had problems with. However, my dose is quite high so for those of you taking much lower dosages, you should be fine. Long term use is much more difficult to deal with.

Xanax is an outstanding drug for both short and long term use. I have just decided that it is no longer for me. I'm taking 2mg per day for a week and then cutting down to 1.5mg next week.

Don't be scared to take Xanax. Remeraber that neurosis plays a large factor in Xanax reductions in dose. Yes, there are severe side affects at times. You have to tell yourself that they to will soon pass and just ignore them as best you can.

In hinRABight, I think that Xanax is the best drug for Anxiety and OCD. I've tried Luvox (fluvoxamine) and it was largely ineffective. Good luck!

xanax does in fact slow your heart rate and other functions down. This is why is should never, ever be corabined with alcohol. When those two drugs corabine it can literally be lights out.

I take it, or rather did until poverty has kept me from a doc, and now of course docs are all anti D crazy and are unwilling to RX this med.

P disorder is caused by a shortage of GABA and xanax potentates GABA, and will also act as if it is it.

Oh wow, 50, ok. I don't feel so bad now. It's just that mine will sometimes go slow and every once in a while feel like it will thump really hard. I guess its ok though and nothing to worry about.

Girl- my heart has done so many crazy things and that is the least of my worries. lol.I am so more concerned over the neurological things. Do not know why. My heart will also do a huge thump like it is trying to start up. I do not even worry about it anymore.

I've been on Xanax for 8 months now [0.5 dosage] and I notice a slight difference in my heart rate, it slows it down to me from beating so fast when anxious. But I wont worry about it. I cant go a day without this Medication

I actually haven't taken any since my post. My uncle was having some anxiety issues last year though when my aunt was very ill and he said he would feel like a nervous wreck and he'd take his pulse and it would be 64 bpm and then he said he'd take a Xanax to calm his mind down and when he would take his pulse again an hour later it would still be 64 bpm. My mother in law said that Xanax doesn't actually slow your heart rate down, it just makes you calm all over, so if your pulse is racing it will naturally slow down as you become more relaxed. That all makes sense, I'm just so terrified of medicine which is all part of my anxiety that I hesitate to take almost everything. Thanks for checking in on me :-)
