X-Men: The Last Stand - Sunday 25th January - Channel 4 8.00pm

I actually think The Last Stand is somewhat maligned.

It could have been longer but some of the individual sequences like Phoenix doing a Wizard of Oz in her living room are outstanding.

Vinnie Jones sucks harder than a Dyson though.

Wanted so hard to like this but felt cheated by the movie makers....only out to get my money...heard mixed reviews about the new Wolverine movie...having to recut and edit to make it work.

Such a shame.

Hmmm... Not as bad as I remebered, that. Rather fun. Shame about the awful continuity (editing?) error, where it turns from day to night in one frame on the bridge.

The mark of a good actor is making the audience not know who you are - even when covered in blue! Only just found out tonight on imdb that it's him.

Unfortunately, for me, X3 isn't as good as 1 and 2. Despite some visually stunning set-pieces, it just seemed all over the place. On reflection, like The Mummy 3, it's clear that the 3rd of the trilogy is helmed by someone different, who didn't have the same interpretation as their predecessor.

However, the saving grace for me - "I'm the jugganaught, bitch!" never grows old. :)

I love this film, its exciting.

Not the best storyline, but for me its the best film as the other 2 get a bit too dragged down by storyline, its only a comic book story.

Actually, I think Ratner did a very good job in aping Singer's look/feel, given the sub-standard script he was given, and very short time he was told to make it in. The issue is, IMO, almost all with the scripting and rushing to get the film out before Superman returns. It was written long before Ratner was brought on board the floundering project.

nowhere near as bad as people make out..yes 1 and 2 are far better but this 1 has a lot of action and the storyline is a good 1 from the comics..so still a good watch

It's no where near as good as the first two, but it's enjoyable enough.

I liked seeing Kitty Pride and Colossus in action too.

I really liked the 3rd one :o , though I know it's a very unfashionable thing to say.
I thought the last fight scene was great, and I loved the showdown between Iceman and Pyro.

We also got to see Scott's eyes.... before Jean disintigrated him

Didn't think much of it to be honest. It seemed a poorly realised hodgepodge that was a bit free and easy with previously integral characters. Once Captain Picard got wiped out, I lost interest.

The final shot is a real cheap cop-out as well.

I liked 1 and 2.

The problems I have with it are:

1) They killed off the beautiful Cyclops (because the gorgeous James Marsden elected to be in Superman Returns instead)
2) They killed off Jean Grey (one of my favourite characters)
3) The plot was pretty nonsensical
4) It seemed sort of 'cheap' somehow

That said, and the part where Xavier confronts the Dark Phoenix in Jean's old house is spectacular. One of my favourite scenes from any comic book film. After that I feel it goes downhill.

Btw, on the DVD if you watch until the end of the credits you find out that Xavier (Patrick Stewart) had transferred his consciousness into the body of the patient we see earlier in the film (in the comics this patient is, I think, Xavier's twin brother, who is in a permanent coma).

I think the film suffered with the change in director.

I enjoyed it.

But it felt to me to be more like just stitching together some excellent set pieces.
Very very good set pieces, but for some reason it felt empty and lacking in other areas.
Great ideas too, but as a story it didn't feel to have that much depth.

Like I say, excellent set pieces. Beautiful to look at. Still enjoyable. But felt empty for some reason. Like it was missing a full fledged story and was more like just telling the story through a succession of set pieces. Like a very long music video.

The visuals I thought were very well realised indeed though.
Phoenix using her power in the house looked great. The way that everything sort of went into threaRAB or shreRAB looked incredible.
Xavier and Magneto looking much younger was surely breaking new ground in CGI effects.
And many of the action scenes were very imaginative and well executed.
But it's still a film though. I still think that it should hold up in all areas and not just with the visuals.

I enjoyed all the XMen films, and am looking forward to seeing Wolverine in action once again.

However, this film is definitely a kitchen-sink affair. Very similar to Spiderman 3, there are too many story lines going on at once, too many new characters introduced and too many mistakes (day turning into night in the same scene anyone?)
