X-Men: The last Stand- Opinons?

So I finally got round to watching this last night, I really enjoyed the first two Xmen films, but thought this was the biggest pile of poo.

The Pheonix/Jean Grey story was handled extremely poorly, where was the character development?

Was there much point in involving Rogue in the script at all?

Hugh Jackman is good, but too much Wolverine for my liking.

Overall, a bit to corny and felt quite rushed.

Anyone agree?
 
Yeah, it's so-so. Too much tried to be put in. Phenoix should have been a single movie to it'self let alone with Magneto and 'The Cure' all in it as well.
 
It was definitely the weakest. Slightly worse that the first, and not in the league of (the frankly excellent) X2. Undercooked, rushed, way too short (who'd have thought these days), and with one huge continuity error.... but not bad per se.

A disappointing third part to the comic franchise, but nowhere near as bad as Spidey 3. So I'll let it off.
 
OK but they messed up a few of the characters - they got Callisto and Psylocke wrong for a start.

Rogue would never have taken the cure - EVER - so that was another one they screwed up.

I'm not even going to start on the whole 'Cyclops Death' thing - cos that just makes me so mad! :mad:

Juggernaught was just pantomime baddie-esque and Angel was underused!
 
I quite enjoyed it, but then I don't read the comics so I could care less about accuracy. My GF hated it, but I think that's largely as it has a sad ending and she doesn't like those on principle.

having not read the comics, I thought it was decent enough...a few shocks in there made it quite emotive when comparing the film to the previous too....

Having 3 lead characters die is quite a bold thing to do, Professor X, Cyclops & Jean Grey (again!) - with the combo of Magneto & Mystique losing their powers....it gave the film a nice edge....I didn't know what was going to happen next!

Yes, I agree that a lot of the characters were surplus to requirements and this suggests that they did indeed try to cram too much into it....however, overall, one of the best enRAB to a comic book trilogy...
 
Phew glad I'm not the only that didn't really like it. Ditto with Spidy3.

Methinks Hollywod directors are all about big budgets and special effects these days, what we really need is some good old fashioned character develpment and a good storyline.

Was also a little disappionted with POTC3.
 
It could have been handled better in many many ways but given that it had a release date to work to, Bret could only do what he could.

What still makes me giggle is the massive continuity error where it goes from day time, to night time, in one second. LOL!
 
I thought it was rushed.

The problem seems to be with these comic book films (Spidey, Xmen, the original Superman) they think oh no last film let's shove in as much as possible.
 
Despite what the majority opinion of this film is, i still really enjoyed it, better than the first film imo, which when re-watched doesn't seem to have that "gripping" factor to it anymore (again, this is only my opinion, so don't penalize me). The thing that bugs me about all the people saying "it's shit" is that before it was even released all the fanboys were crying out and saying it was crap purely because it:

A) Wasn't directed by Bryan Singer

and

B) It had a shorter running time than both of the previous films.

Fair enough if you don't like it after seeing it, but most of the people had their minRAB already made up that it would be crap...

X2 was definitely the best film of the trilogy though, in fact i'd go as far as to say it's my favourite comic book adaptation ever.
 
I completely missed the intriguing ending due to the hooky DVD I was watching being too grainy and noisy. :o

The scene where Wolverine rallies the troops had me laughing my pants off. What an abrupt difference in style and tone from the first two films.

If only Singer hadn't taken the Warner bucks - I felt his Superman Returns was a waste of his talents, too.
 
X-Men 3 was good but dissapointing. It had potential to be great.

It was closer to the comics than the previous films. The problem were the creative team. Ratner has never done a dark action/drama which X-Men is supposed to be. You also have writers who wrote masterpieces like XXX 2 and Inspector Gadget.

Ratner said he doesnt like long films and likes to keep the energy going. This is good for comedies which he is good at but this is the X-Men. It neeRAB to be epic and longer.
 
The thing about X Men 3 that left me wondering was the bit at the end when Magneto seemed to move the chess piece in the park - were his powers coming back?

If so is there going to be another film? And are the rest of the de-powered mutants going to get their powers back. Also - did Jean/Phoenix actually kill the people she 'dissolved' - or did she do something else like shift them out of phase with the rest of the universe, in which case they might all still be alive and could come back if she wants them to?
