x men franchise continues?

I haven't seen the new x men film yet (plan to rent it when its released on dvd) but there has been lots of talk that the title "the last stand" was merely a tease and they in fact plan to make more.

I would prefer it if they ended this particular story arc there as I like a franchise to be neat and tidy rather than endlessly make sequels and then just suddenly end it with all these loose enRAB. A trilogy is a nice round number and very popular since Lord of the Rings.

However, that doesn't mean to say they have to stop making x men films. I know they plan to make several spin off films with Wolverine and magneto. That would be good but that could produce way too many films that end up being a bit dodgy like 'Hulk'. There are thousanRAB of x men characters and don't forget they were designed to be part of a team so most of the characters are not meaty enough to produce a decent movie on their own.

I think it would be good to make some films based on the x men spin off comics, of which there are loaRAB. They could then make a series of trilogies like star wars original trilogy and the new trilogy. One good spinoff I think would be "The New X-Men: Academy X" and they could do the 'decimation event' storyline.

I would like the franchise to continue but in a very carefully planned and selective manner to ensure the good quality of the previous films continues, particularly due to the high standard of superhero films at the moment.

X3 did very well in the Box Office and received decent enough reviews so X4 could go ahead.

This is what was recently said about X4:

"X-Men" executive producer Lauren Shuler Donner talked to LA Daily News about X-Men 4, for which they would have to renegotiate with the bigger stars, and also Wolverine and Magneto:

"The newer cast members are signed, and the older cast members are not." Considering the older names involved -- Halle Berry, Hugh Jackman, Rebecca Romijn, Famke Janssen and Anna Paquin -- that could run into a huge chunk of money.

All that's putting the cart before the wolverine, of course, since Hugh Jackman is set to reprise his role as the manicure-challenged mutant superhero in his own film. "Next, we're going to do 'Wolverine,' but not before the end of the year because he's in the Baz Luhrmann film," she says of the filmmaker's untitled Australian epic with Nicole Kidman. However, "We have the script and are working on it."

Shuler Donner reports, "We also have 'Young Magneto' in development."

So who knows, the ball is really in the actors' court. There's the whole thing about pay and screen time now to deal with.

I think if they do a X4 it will focus on the younger X Men such as Ice Man, Rogue etc and will feature cameos from Wolverine, Storm if they can get them signed up. At least that way they can continue the franchise beyond the possible X4!

I hope they do something with the franchise! For the amnount of comics there are it seems such a waste to end it there.

I would like the idea of focusing on the younger ones and I think that is why it would be good to base any further films on the comic book spin oRAB like the 'New Mutants' i mentioned at the top. Do a search on wikipedia.com if you don't know about it. It sounRAB quite interesting to me.

This is a list of all the X Men teams from Wikipedia.com

New Mutant Graduate X-Men
Muir Island X-Men
Phalanx Covenant X-Men
Astonishing X-Men
Eve of Destruction X-Men
Planet X Street Team

New Mutants / X-Force
New Mutants I
X-Force I
X-Force II/X-Statix
X-Factor
Excalibur
GLX-Men (Great Lakes X-Men)
Xavier Institute Students
Generation X (apparently there was a tv film based on Generation X but it had an extremely low budget and was panned by critics and audiences, however, that doesn't mean it neeRAB to be avoided but could be given a bigger budget and made into a brilliant film).

With all of these teams and different award winning story arcs how could they ignore it?!

I think wolverine was the only one that was given a solo comic so think it would be inappropriate for them to persue too many solo films on other characters.

The films are only aloud to go on if Stan Lee says they can at the moment he hasn't said that any films apart from the Wolverine and Magneto film can carry on because they constantly didn't listen to the long lasting fans plea and his own to put Gambit in the film.

He did make a statement not that long ago, I'll see if I can find it, but he said that he doesn't want to carry on with Iceman and Rouge etc because the most popular X-men wouldn't be in it and also they've buggered all the aging up and it doesn't/wouldn't make any sense to the older fans.

So apparently they are going ahead with a fourth x men film! Is this good or bad news?

According to the report only the new memebers have signed on so far. Does that mean that they will pick a different aspect of the x men universe to make a new trilogy or will key figures from the initial films just suddenly disappear?

I hope they don't ruin the franchise. It makes sense to make more films due to the amount of material that the comics produced but the producers will have to be very careful how they handle this. If Storm, Wolverine or Rogue are suddenly not seen any more without a decent explanation after being so promenant in the previous films that will undermine the whole thing.

I think some of the younger characters such as Rogue, Ice Man and Pyro are already signed up for X4 as it is just the older characters such as Wolverine, Storm etch that are not signed up for X4!

"X-Men: The Last Stand" Isn't the Last?
'Take a look at the ending of the highly anticipated flick and you'll see a scene shot in the hospital bed in the first days of filming which actually never appeared on the script. So it's not over yet as Retner said "Let them come back and see the movie again". '

"X-Men 4" Gets Shaped
'Judging from her statement, it could mean that the older names involved, such as Hugh Jackman and Halle Berry, have the possibility to not be involved in this fourth installment, but let's hope that everything will turn out well for both sides in the end then. '

I like this movie sequel, can't wait for X-Men 4 to be released....
HTH

Sorry for repeating myself Glen24v but Prof X has posted that it would be strange if Rogue didnt return so I was just making the point that as far as I am aware she is returning for X4!

Rogue is a young character but not a NEW one! The report said:

"whilst the newer members to join the cast have agreed to work on another film, big names such as Halle Berry, Hugh Jackman and Rebecca Romijn are yet to sign up.

In an interview with LA Daily News, Shuler Donner stated: "The newer cast members are signed, and the older cast members are not.""

I admit I got mixed up with the names and thought that Rebecca Romijn was Rogue but it still says that only the new cast members have signed. As Rogue was in it from the start this would suggest that she has not signed ... YET!

I hope that Rogue does return (particularly if they intend to focus on the students as suggested in a quote on wikipedia.com) but so far we are kept in the dark about who will and who will not be in it.

I think we will have a long wait for this movie anyway, which is fine by me as I would not like to see a below average sequel just because it had a deadline.

I am sure I read before that although the big names such as Hugh Jackman, Halle Berry etc were not signed up for any more X Men films (Of cause Jackman is doing Wolverine) but the younger cast members who have been in the films since the start are signed up for further films. The younger cast members include Ice Man, Pyro, Rogue etc but this could be wrong!

Information is very limited at the moment as it is in the extremely early stages of development so let's wait and see. Fingers crossed!

What would you like to see in a fourth film?
- a continued story from the existing team or a different aspect of the mythos?

I still hope for the Sentinal Programme to be launched. There's still a lot of characters out there to use, one thing we can be sure of is that this franchise will have no problems with characters!

I suspect that 'The Cure' is not permanent. There must be a reason for the film ending with Magneto hovering his hand over a metal chess piece hoping for it to move. I think that their powers may slowly return.

Not that many characters have been lost. The secret ending after the credits shows that Professor Xavier has transferred his mind to his brain dead twin brother so he can return. We didn't see Cyclops die so he has the potential to return. Phoenix in the comics resurrected numerous times so she could return. And if the cure does turn out to not be permanent then Mistique, Magneto, and Rogue can all return to normal.

However, they could choose a different villain such as Apocalypse but it might be a bit wierd to break the continuity of the films when Magneto has been the antagonist for 3 films and then suddenly the X-men are fighting someone completely different.

I'd like to see a Sentinel storyline in the fourth film and through out the course of the film, those affected by "the Cure" to come back. I'd like to see more Rogue (get down with her baRABelf), Nightcrawler back and the introduction of Gambit to name a few.

But there could also be a twist in the storyline featuring Magneto and The Sentinels. There are certainly enough enemies you could add to the mix and not all of them have to be attached/aligned to Magneto.

I hope they go on, Brett did a reasonable job, as good a job as he could have done in his position at the time. His heart certainly seemed into it and if Byran has no intention to go back to X-Men and stick to Superman  then I think he's as good as any other director to handle another X-Men movie.

I do hope Wolverine and Storm come back tho, I likes them and we need "the teachers".

It did move. Only slightly, but quite obviously. Watch the DVD.

There are currenly no plans for an X-Men 4, but then again, in 1993, there were no plans for any more Star Wars movies, and X-Men III did better than anyone expected in Box Office and on DVD,

The Wolverine prequel is scripted, contracted and due to film early next year.

People give him hassle, but given that he was handed a finished script and a directorless movie after Vaughn walked out as he couldn't hack the pressure from Fox, and then given 9 month to make it happen, Ratner did an exceptional job.
