X-Men 3

This was on the Superherohype website about X3:

"Entertainment Weekly reports that its next issue (#867 with "The Sopranos" on the cover) includes a feature on X-Men: The Last Stand. Here's a preview of the article the magazine posted on its site:

In less than three months, we'll all have the answer to one of the biggest questions on the minRAB of movie buRAB everywhere: Will X-Men: The Last Stand live up the high standarRAB of the franchise? Until it hits theaters on May 26, however, you'll have to divine answers from Tim Stack's story in the new issue of Entertainment Weekly, in which he tackles such subjects as what the movie's about, how exactly Brett Ratner took over the director's gig from Bryan Singer, and whether The Last Stand will, in fact, be the last stand for everyone's favorite big-screen mutants. Here's what he found out:

The end of X2 seemed to set up a third installment focusing on a Jean Grey/Dark Phoenix story line that would follow the evolution of the goody-two-shoes character (played by Famke Janssen) into a super-baddie. But the driving plot of The Last Stand turns out to be the discovery of a "cure" for mutations. Why the switch? "To start and end the movie with just Dark Phoenix is silly," says Marvel Studios CEO Avi Arad. "It's not enough -- you run out of story." But Twentieth Century Fox chairman Tom Rothman says the new direction will still thrill: "It has one of the coolest beginnings. It begins with [Patrick Stewart's] Xavier and [Ian McKellen's] Magneto together as young men." And devotees of Halle Berry/Storm (pictured with, from left to right, Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart, and Kelsey Grammer) will be relieved to know that the weather-wielding mutant is central to the third film and, more importantly, has a new wig.

The article also mentions that Hugh Jackman hopes to shoot the Wolverine spinoff next year. "We actually have a second draft coming in," says Jackman about the script."

It'd have a higher gross in this country if the cinemas stopped filling up all of the rest of the screens with The Da Vinci Sh*te and let X-Men have them.

Just seen the movie - it's very, very good. Not quite as good as X2 in my book though. Though the finale in X2 with Jean Grey saving the X-Men but valiantly sacrificing herself was really well done. Not of the scenes in X3 are quite so poignant. But still made me feel all excited and floating-on-air when I came out of the cinema!

Is there a separate forum for reviewing the movie for people who've seen it? (So that we don't give away plot for people who haven't seen it yet).

"X-Men: The Last Stand" stormed to an estimated $107 million three-day opening, the largest ever for Memorial Day weekend and the fourth-biggest in box office history.

Preliminary estimates were released Sunday for the third installment of the series featuring a cast of mutants with names like Storm (Halle Berry), Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) and Mystique (Rebecca Romijn).

The 20th Century Fox film opened in 3,690 theaters and grossed a whopping $28,997 per theater.

"People had such a huge awareness of the movie that it just translated into these huge numbers," said Paul Dergarabedian, president of box-office tracker Exhibitor Relations.

The film benefited from a huge base of fans who had seen the first two "X-Men" films, plus great marketing and solid reviews, Dergarabedian said.

"This is what the summer is all about," he said, adding the box office has rebounded well since last year's slump. "With `Da Vinci Code' doing better than anticipated ... we could not be in a better position."

Estimates for "The Da Vinci Code" over the start of the holiday weekend were not immediately available. That film, starring Tom Hanks and directed by Ron Howard, had a solid $77 million opener last weekend.

On the all-time list, "X-Men: The Last Stand" ranks behind only "Spider-Man," "Star Wars: Episode III" and "Shrek 2" for opening weekend gross. None of the other films opened on a holiday weekend, which usually gives movies a boost.

Xmen 4 is pretty much a given then

Although I was never particularly keen on the choice of Matthew Vaughn for X3 his departure has to make the film's production and quality even more shaky. They are supposed to start shooting next month a new director would need time to impose some kind of vision/approve the script etc quite worrying.

well at least the script has already been written and it hais after all a very good cast. I think no matter who they get to direct it, its still going to be half decent. Its just a matter of doing justice to the excellent phoenix storyline.

Maybe there will be a 3.5 version of X3 released on DVD. As far as I could find though the only offical announced DVD of X3 is the US one. They have yet to announce the UK release yet although it is expected to be around the same time but are we sure that the extras will be the same for the UK release?

All the extras will be on the UK one. The US is only getting a single disc edition, along with a comic. They will probably get a 2 disc edition months after that so FOX can rake more money in. We get everything though.

Joss wasn't asked... slightly unsure with the choice of director to be honest... I just hope the writing team really make it work...

I too am hoping Rogue will get her additional powers in the coming film, I want to see her be a be the tougher head strong confidant Rogue from the comics...

It's a pity that this is most likely going to be the last one until it's reinvented in the future with a new cast and what not, there's still so much to tell... maybe they manage to squeeze the sentinels, phoenix and dark phoenix all into one movie... maybe...

k.

Matthew Vaughn has said that he hasn't spoken to Halle Berry yet about returning as Storm in X3 although he does hope that will happen. Halle Berry has already said that she has been frustrated about her limited role in the X1 and X2.
"The only thing about Storm that was better in 'X2' than 'X1' was she had a better haircut," says Vaughn, "So, it's not going to be hard to give her more to do. I've written her a very good role so hopefully [Halle] will be enthusiastic."
So it seems what Halle Berry asks for she gets when it comes to her film roles!

They said they wasnt going to bring Halle Berry back because she acted like a Diva on set, and didnt get on with most of her co stars, jean grey will be back.
