Superman Returns better be one heck of a film for Bryan Singer to have left this once great franchise in the hanRAB of a buch of Hollywood hacks. While it's an alright summer blockbuster, it's nowhere near the quality of X2, or even X1. With X1, you could feel there was a genius behind the camera but they were restrained from going all out sometimes. I would think with certain scenes, that's an interesting idea, but I wish they's gone further with it. With X2 though, that genius was totally unleashed. There was nothing I didn't like about it. I could go on and on about all the moments, big and small, that made the story such a masterpiece and the characters so real.
But X3? The genius had been all but extinguished. There were occaisional glimpses as it fought to reignite, particularly in the first half, but those attempts were quickly subdued. The whole film was fairly pedestrian. I guess I would have liked it more if I didn't have the first 2 to compare it to.
