Writing pressure?

Hi everyone,

I have been reading this forum for a while now, and I don't think this has ever been asked so...
How much pressure do you guys put on the stylus when you write on the screen? Just enough for it to work right or as if you were writing on a piece of paper? This has been bugging me for a while now, it would be a silly way to break my precious PDA.

Since I'm a Moose - it's a lot of pressure, probably about a ton or more.

This will be a very subjective thread but I'd have to say that your example of "writing on a piece of paper" is going to be about the correct amount.

You can over do it and obviously you can't under do it.

The results of over doing it are obvious - hole in the glass and I don't think that's ever been done with a stylus.

Under doing it and you don't get any inputting done.

Since the touch screen really spreads the "thrust" of the stylus over a pretty wide surface area then there is very little chance of damage unless your using a fine tipped ball point pen instead of the stylus.

Hence the reason I use a screen protector is to avoid the blue ink from an accidental pen usage. I prefer the hard type screen protectors from Boxwave or similar company and can easily get 6+ months useage out of them.

The soft type screen protectors are supposed to last a month - if your using them and having to replace them more frequently, I'd suggest you stop lifting weights or stop trying to take out your frustrations on your PDA.

If your not using screen protection and you start noticing "scratches" then lighten up a little. If your using the default stylus and your screen has scratches and the device is only a few weeks old.....I'd suggest a good pyschologist or massage therapist because your much too tense.

If you only use the default stylus - you'll never put too much pressure on the screen - it's impossible unless you put the PDA in a vise and then get a hammer and use the stylus as a punch.

The best answer I can give you is to only use as much pressure as is necessary to accomplish the task. You'll know when is enough....your own description is the best about writing - Just remember your writing on a surface that's a little softer then glass.

If you've been playing bejeweled for a couple of hours and your fingers have gone numb from holding the stylus too tight then see above about the pyschologist or therapist.

Thanks for the reply, I feel my PDA is a bit safer now.

And no need for a shrink, just being cautious with my hard earned investment.

Are the stock stylus less sensative than an aftermarket one?

I would like to know how many people use screen protectors.

I am now using the stock stylus and writing on mine like I would a piece of paper.

I just purchased a T3 and at the same time I purchased some screen protectors for it. My wife is a heavy Palm user and she wears out screen protectors about once every 3 months. When she is down you can see some noticable scratchs and wear. She has wore out 2 PDAs to date.
I just imagine what her current screen would look like if she had not used a screen protector. She uses PDAScreenProtectors.

Based on some comments on this board, I ordered some from Boxwave. I have found in the past all protectors are not created equal. I got the Clear ones.

My personal opinoin based on having 4 PDA in the house over the years, Screen Protectors are a must if you want to proctect the screen. If you don't use one, over time it will scratch.
