my homework sheet says i need to write balanced symbol equations including state symbols!
could someone please help me with the first one? it says -

calcium + water ----> calcium hydroxide + hydrogen

if someone could wite me the answer that would help cause then i can use it as an example!
x.
thanks

2Ca(s) + 2H2O(l) -------->Ca(OH)2 (aq) + H2(g)
The letters in brackets represent state symbols
(s)-solid
(l)-liquid
(g)-gas
(aq)-aqueous
the letter before the elements are added to balcne the equation.
Sorry I couldnot write the equation properly.For hydrogen gas(on the right side) the 2 is supposed to be written below the H and so on for the other elements.
I hope it helped.

Ca(2+) + 2 H2O -> Ca(OH)2 + 2 H(+)

I can't do superscript or subscript

Calcium has a 2+ charge, so it needs two OH ions (1- charge each) to balance. to get 2 OH ions you need two water molecules, and that leaves two H+ ions. Each side of the equation has 2 (+) charges.
